Trying on hats in Debenhams

My American friend Goldilocks and I spent the day in Nottingham. We've both made goals to get off our bums and start visiting places, even if it is freezing cold, and today was Trip #1. I'll do the full report later, but Notts was very nice once we stopped heading off in wrong directions from the train station and wandering off the map and into the outskirts where they keep the gun crime. We did this not once but twice, because we are both Smart People.

Also, who are proper English ladies now, huh? Please feel free to vote for your favorites. I won't be buying any, even if there is a wedding this weekend, because they all cost between £25 and £65. We had to be sneaky about the photos so as not to attract attention to ourselves, and it was difficult because there were other ladies playing with the hats as well. Only maybe they were going to a wedding or Ascot or something and actually needed one.

While they are all quite dashing, I like the 4th one down. It's stylish, sophisticated, and not too out of control.

(what's up with all the feathers?)

I love the pink one. It makes you look . . . I don't know . . . vulnerable somehow. Also the second one sported by Goldilocks is very cute.

Very dashing.

"Come on Dover. Come ON dover. COME ON DOVER! MOVE YER BLOOMIN' ARSE" comes to mind for some reason...

My favorite is the second from the bottom and the second from the top. All quite fun and British.

I like the white one on goldie. Also, are you doing something different with your eyebrows, I don't mean to sound like mom, but they look different. Not that they were ugly before or now, they just look different than the last time I saw you. Then again, sleep deprivation could be affecting my vision

Just get the one you want!
What? You can't decide?

CBH spotted the MommieGem!

Wow mom, I can totally picture you saying that.

CoolMom said... [reply]

CBH, no you can't! You can totally see your DAD saying that. That's a di-rect quote.

Hi Kristen, I don't know what was up with the feathers. But they ALL had them.

DG, that's why I chose the pink one first!

Hee. Might have been the b&w hat that made you think it, Stupid.

Hi DMA. I think most people are voting for that sassy one Goldilocks is wearing. It's probably my fave too.

Mom, I knew who you meant!

And no, Savvymom, I don't think I'm doing anything different with my eyebrows. I am raising my left one when I'm in the black and white hat, though. So that could be it.

Very chic. Did you try on matching gloves, as well?

Savvy likes the red had the best.

I like the second-to-last hat the best, but they're all ever so fun. I want to move to England so I can go to Ascot. Or a wedding.

Don't you just love hat shops! I went to one in Niagara-on-the-Lake (right by Niagara Falls, on the Canadian side, for those who don't know, and I'm sure there are many). Unfortunately all the really cool hats were like $175 CD (made by a designer) and I have nowhere to wear a hat (maybe church, but ppl @ my church don't do that). I loved this hat that was brown felt and came down over one eye and had a cream leather bow and leather trimming. Wouldn't it be fun to be a Bennet girl and trim hats and bonnets as an employment (i.e. something to do b/c your work is just to sit on your muslin bottom, look beautiful, be accomplished and get a hubby. :)
