The saddest story ever

So when I was 10 I saw Beauty & the Beast and fell completely in love with it. It gave me hope that girls who spend all their time reading will still be able to get boyfriends--handsome, rich, furry boyfriends. And for the record, I think the Beast is way better looking than the Prince. The Prince looks like a girl.

When the VHS came out I rode my bike to the BX and bought it, spending $15 of my hard-earned babysitting money.

When the new Special Edition was released at IMAX theatres Amyjane and I went to see it. Loved loved loved.

When the new Platinum Special Edition 2-disc set was released on DVD Amyjane and I both pre-ordered our copies at Costco and got a great deal.

Then tragedy struck. I don't have it anymore. It's gone. I couldn't find it when I packed all my things up last year. And now I find out that they don't make them anymore so the only way to get it back (short of setting up a Brute Squad to find whoever took the original and break their knees) is to buy one of the still-existing copies online. And I'm poor.

So here's hoping I get this for Christmas so that I can repair my shattered dreams and deep, deep sense of betrayal and loss. Mom, Dad, the link is right over there on the sidebar. And please make sure it's the 2-disc set instead of the 1-disc copy! I love you!

You are pathetic!

I feel your pain. I once had Sleeping Beauty on VHS (I loved Sleeping Beauty when I was little, although I was eternally disappointed that she ended up with the pink dress when the blue was obviously superior) and it disappeared with some random roommate one year and it makes me sad everytime I remember that. And it was just VHS, nothing special. I hope Santa brings it for you. Because Beauty and the Beast is the best sort of fairytale.

So, Dad, you wouldn't want to get mistaken for the Anonymous Jerk Blogger that posts here occasionally, would you?

Thanks for understanding, Scully! They now have a really really nice DVD version of Sleeping Beauty. Maybe your mom and dad will get it for you WITHOUT calling you pathetic.

B&TB is my favorite Disney show, too. DesDad gave me the Platinum set for my birthday a few years back. Definitely beats getting a grill (this year's gift--not that I'm complaining, it's just not as thoughtful and romantic as the DVD was). Hope you can locate a copy. If not, you'll have to get a job up here and I'll loan it to you.

When B&B came out, I worked as an early-morning stocker at the grocery store. I used to clock in, put new boxes of cereal, coffee, and pancake mix on the shelves, then clock out, go home and shower. Then I went to school.

The time clock in our grocery store was located in the bakery where the bakers were already hard at work when we arrived in the morning. The baker's assistant was a funny gay guy who was very open about being funny. And Gay.

When I clocked in, he asked if I had seen B&B yet. I said no. He told me that he and his boyfriend had seen it the previous night. That morning he sang the theme song over and over, but he didn't know any of the words except "Beauty and the Beast" and his singing voice was terrible.

And the tune was off: the notes he used were DCBAB (play it on your pianer; it's FUN!).

I liked the movie, but was always traumatized by the baker singing

"Beauty and the Beast" (DCBAB)
"Beauty and the Beast" (DCBAB)
"Beauty and the Beast" (DCBAB)
"Beauty and the Beast" (DCBAB)

all day long.

Stupid, I just hummed DCBAB to myself and yeah, that is SO not the right way to sing it. Wow. That's probably gonna haunt me.

I like that movie. And yes, even girls that read can find nice boys (I think).

Saw the musical at Hale Center Theater a few months back on a date. Musical = good; Date = bad.

Have you loked through Savvymom's stuff yet? Try the Bambi case. I hear it's a great place to hide things.

I just had to add that I have this very exact thing you are missing...............

:)

NOT that I'm bragging or anything, or flaunting it, either.

Oh, and PS to Scully--I have that exact Sleeping Beauty on VHS, too. :)

I hope you get it for Christmas! This was my favorite Disney movie for awhile just by virtue of it having a brown-eyed, brown-haired heroine. That green-eyed minx in the crappy sequel and in the doll versions is just plain WRONG.

And yeah, the Prince was weird looking. My favorite Disney prince: Philip in Sleeping Beauty.

Kelly, are you serious? GREEN eyes? That is just wrong. I love Belle's eyes, and the fact that she too does the Eyebrow of Doom.
