Hee! I remember going on the live-in weekend and having the misfortune of taking a bus in Liverpool around the time schools let out. Surrounded by such kids! Also, is it sad that while thoroughly enjoying these, they also made me want to cry a bit? The same thing happened when a DVD my parents were watching showed a trailer for The Queen. I really need to get back to England!
Thank you for sharing Catherine Tate with your blogging community :-)
You may be interested to know that she played a minor role in the BBC's production of Bleak House a while ago - was it last year? But more importantly she was the bride in last Christmas's Doctor Who special episode. Has that made it to the US yet?
I can't say that I've ever thought she was gorgeous, but who cares? At the royal variety performance in 2005 she shocked the nation (ha!) by speaking directly to the queen, saying "Are you disrespecting me?" and "Is one bovvered?" Somebody told her that she should be careful because the queen could have her beheaded, and she said she didn't care "cos I don't even need it".
Miss Nem is right about the "Nan" sketches. In those, she attempts to be funny by being an old person who uses foul language and talks about vulgar things.
I'm Steph, a librarian and mom of 3 (not sure how that happened). Let's chat books, food, Sumptuous Literary Adaptations, poop, knitting and maybe some crazy Mormon Feminism.

Oh man- that's the best Thing Tony's ever done.
Catherine Tate actually looks really gorgeous when she's not in costume- it's quite scary!
I'm not sure what my untrained American ear heard, but is her (or I guess Tony Blair's in this instance) signature line "I'm not bothered"?
Yep, that's it, Abby. Just pronounced "bovvered."

Goodness. Now you've piqued my interest about those "Nan" sketches.
Oh that was brilliant! It was so brilliant I said 'brilliant' with an English accent when I thought it. :)
