Finns are the most fun!

I knew this already because my Finnish friend Galileo is the coolest. He never mentioned that his country produced this video, though! My sweet brother coolboy sent it to me last year and today I share it with you as a Thursday present.

I think my favorite part, though, is that after he sent it coolboy sent me this remake done by "some college students." I watched it for about 15 seconds and said, "Uh . . . those aren't 'some college students.' Those are Mormons. I'm betting BYU students."

I couldn't initially put my finger on how I knew that, but I just did. Instantly. Then I realized that everyone just looked so rosy-cheeked and wholesome and Caucasian, and the girls all had sleeves and were wearing their Shade shirts. Then I noticed the piano in the background and the LDS hymnbook sitting on it.

That's right. I'm good.

Oh, where would the seventies have been without Scandinavian music videos? Where would we be today?

And I'm glad you noticed the hymn book on the piano. Because I would have had to worry about you had you not. Personally, I rather enjoyed the bloopers included at the end.

You may not believe me, but I have have already seen this. Here's to prove it: http://lililou11.blogspot.com/2007/03/how-can-i-be-sure-your-not-pretender.html )my friend's little sister.)
Both are pretty awesome, but the original is classic.

I'm sure she'll be too classy to mention it, but this seems like a slap in the face to our dear Sakhmet.

Oh, what could have been . . .

Sakhmet, I urge you to visit my blog, where you will find no such references to a subject which can only be painful to you--the funness of Finns.

I can't see your video but if this is the "I want to love you tender" song then that's funny. Because we learned the dance, got our costumes, and performed the entire video for all of Independent Study at last year's Christmas Party Talent Show. We thought it'd be hilarious(and it was a big hit) but we didn't realize that because we practiced 20 times our entire marketing department would have that song stuck in their head for about three weeks. Now I don't know whether to cringe and throw up when I hear the song or drop what I'm doing and start air guitaring.

The remake looks like it's EFY counselors, on account of the sheet sorting crap in the background. Unless they do that in the dorms normally? Funny stuff!

Not to mention that it appears to be filmed in the basement of Heritage Halls at BYU... and that this would probably only be done by people who don't choose to spend their Friday nights at bars.

Indeed, Edgy. In . . . deeed.

Sarah, I do believe you. I think this one has been around for a little while!

Oh dear. Sakhmet, please believe that I did not mean any slight towards you or towards What Might Have Been. I bow my head in shame.

Jamie, I can absolutely see the whole thing that you just described. And I'm sorry that I was not sitting at my old desk next to you during that special special time!!!

Yeah, they do the sheets in the dorms. Except all the cool kids brought really cool cotton/poly blend sheets WITH us. So that we could be cool. And so that we could pay to wash them ourselves.

Liz, thank you! I've never been in Heritage Halls so I'll take your word for it. I was a Helaman Halls girl, myself. So it looked familiar but not exactly right, if that makes sense.

Um, those aren't Finnish people, those are BYU cheerleaders. I'm not sure about Disco Dave though - the one with a vneck down to his belly button. He might be pretender. Thanks for the Finny video! My favorite is where D.Dave does the banana peel right in front of the camera.

Mmm, I don't think those are the basements at Heritage. So, if it's not Helaman and not Heritage, perhaps it's . . . BYU-Idaho? Just wondering.

Oh, and I loved the video. Played it for DesDad and VirginiaSis. They almost cried.

After 10 seconds, I was thinking "huh?", but I stuck with it, then went to the "remake". Silly, funny stuff.

What was the reason for the "outer space" background in the original, though, huh?

I preferred the BYU remake video, lol. I even saw the hymnal.

Now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head for the next week or so. Thanks a lot! :)

And some of those dance moves reminded me of stuff I did in ward talent shows when I was in Young Women's. I once danced to "Footloose" wearing an oversized t-shirt over hot pink bike shorts. And I had a matching hot pink stretchy headband. Maybe I should write a post about that...

S-Boogie likes the BYU version best.

As soon as Brinestone saw the remake, she said, "Oh my gosh, is that Helaman Halls?" That doesn't really help, does it? I never lived in the dorms, but the furniture looks like the same stuff they use in the Wilk.

To the contrary, that video has cured me of any fondness I might once have had for Finns. They are all dead to me now.

I thought the bit with the girl on his back and her hair pretending to be his hair was clever.

Kill me. Kill me now.
