Not that I'm unpatriotic

But I think I'm more excited for what's coming after the 4th of July. On the 6th (Friday) I'll leave work early and meet up with Jen & Co at IKEA, where I will return some goods and then purchase many, many more.

On our way down to Happy Valley we're stopping at Chadder's for dinner. It's the new In-N-Out knock-off in American Fork and we need to go now on account of In-N-Out is already suing them. Only I'd like to know what they say is the exact copyright being infringed. "We own hamburgers!" "We own short menus!" "We own fries made with real potatoes"

I think it's more like this one: "Stopit stoppit stoppit you guys are jerks and you're not even being fair!!!"

My favorite bit is the part where In-N-Out has now decided to open up a store in St. George, UT. Yeah. Now they get on that.

Saturday will be Lavender Days at the Young Living Farm in Mona, UT. I'm way excited about it because I've wanted to go to another lavender farm ever since I went last summer in Yorkshire with Lady J. The one bit I'm not excited about is the elf or whatever on the "Lavender Days" page. I hope she's not there.

I do however, hope I meet the person who writes for their website. My favorite passage is this one:

Peaceful and tranquil, the Young Living Lavender Farm in Mona, Utah, is a beautiful oasis located on a stark, high desert landscape. Old cottonwood trees know the history of this land. Beautiful, lush herb gardens near the Visitors Center whisper healing secrets from times past.

From now on when anyone asks me a question and I don't know the answer I will say, "Old cottonwood trees know the history of this land."

So, you know, go ask them.

I bet you Gary Young's wife wrote that passage, she is so passionate about everything! Gary was the 2nd counselor in our bishopric at one point and he and his wife were very entertaining to say the least. I'll always remember the sacrament meeting where she came in her long flowing pastel blue chiffon dress to sing her opera songs to us for about 15 minutes of the meeting. AKWARD...

I am not sure what fairies, jousting, paddle boats and pony rides have to do with lavender.....but enjoy yourself and eat a bunch of lavender goodies (esp the lavender ice cream) for your readers.

It sounds like the website for every touristy thing located anywhere near the Texas Hill Country. The lavender shots are not unlike the bluebonnets in full bloom.

Is there really lavender ice cream?

Ok so about In-n-Out's lawsuit: Funny how my first look at their store reminded me somewhat of McDonald's Golden arches...they should maybe think twice about accusing someone of copying them

I had to look at the Farm site, because I somehow knew the "elf" would be worth a peek, knowing you. Might want to keep an eye out for that one. Wonder if lavender is all she is into...

But, I hope you do have a wonderful time. The trip sounds very relaxing. Enjoy

You aren't unpatriotic. The 6th of July was way more fun than the 4th in DC because the 6th is Alexandria, VA's founding day and they have a big party in a park on the Potomac where the give out big slices of birthday cake, play the 1812 Overture with REAL cannons AND have fireworks over the river. In DC on the 4th you have to choose between seeing the concert and having the fireworks obstructed by the state and the Washington Monument or missing the concert to get a good view of the fireworks by the Lincoln memorial.

So I just went to Chadders today; total copy cat. I would have thought that I was in an In-N-Out except for the signage. However, how do you 'own' basic menu items, the packaging, the exterior colors, or restaurant lay-out? And isn't Burger King a knock-off of McDonald's (or vice versa)? I don't know.....there's knock-offs everywhere. This is America.

Once when I was working for my dad in his real estate office, I needed to do a write-up of a house for a flier. I had writer's block, so I just wrote the sappiest, cheesiest thing ever so that we could all laugh at it. Only, when my parents saw it, they liked it and kept it. And then, when they gave the fliers to the woman who owned the house before her open house, she gushed and gushed about the wonderful things I wrote about her home.

Moral of the story? Write what sells.

What are you returning at Ikea?

When I was going to a BYU ward, Brother Young was the 2nd counselor in my bishopric also (was that the same one you were in Usually Happy?). I was kind of thinking the same thing as Usually Happy when I read that. I remember they used to host ward activities at the farm, but I never went. Sister Young was remarkably Utah cheesey but very sincere. I remember her crying like Tammy Faye Baker when she told how long she waited to get married and to have a child at a testimony meeting. I think she was in her late 30s which at the time seemed very old.

Love your pictures of Yorkshire - that's where I'm at. Haven't been out to Yorkshire Lavendar yet but now that I see this I will have to. Enjoy your returning of items to Ikea - I see it's the most talked about place in Utah lately. LOL

Ugh, the Lavender Fairy. We met her (or one of her cohorts) at a town parade. My 3-year-old was fascinated, and now of course wants to go to the tea party that they were promoting at the parade.

Just visited a post from last week and checked out the link about being the older sister of the bride. I was shocked, scandalized, horrified (keep adding words here). It sounds like something that would be a good scene in a novel. . .

Come to Blanco, Texas, just north of San Antonio, Huge lavender farms, plus an early summer Lavender Festival.

OK...
I just want to disuade you, if at all possible from visiting Chadders. The wait is usually intolerable and the food is so not that good. Sure the hamburgers are great if youre a vegetarian, because you have very little meat to take off. And well... the fry SAUCE is good. Save the money and take it to Cafe Rio across the street. You'll be happier for it.
