Oh my flipping gosh heck

So . . . school's out. If you want to imagine what my workplace is like right now, go pepper-spray a pack of chimpanzees and then let them loose in your house. That is what my workplace is like right now. I don't know if I'm going to be able to do this.

Of course, there are the little moments that help. Yesterday a 3-yr-old girl told me that she liked my skirt. (It's the pretty pink one from Gran Canaria with the sequins, which . . . probably just gave you a totally different vision. It's not a clubbing skirt. I promise. The sequins are very subtle. I'm stopping now.)

We're gearing up for the Summer Reading Program, and it's kind of amazing that local businesses will just hand hundreds of dollars worth of coupons over to people who turn up and say they're from a library. Only about 2 places have asked for a letter or anything official. So yeah, if you're ever hungry that's a good way to get some fast-food coupons. Only if you ever do that you will lose so many karma points that you will probably wake up the next morning with your legs coming out your ears and that will be absolutely what you deserve. So don't do that.

I wish our town had a library. Thank goodness I'm going to college next year, or I'd die. Good luck with the summer reading program, I'm sure it will all work out. And I might just go and do that thing with the coupons... ;)

I once read a New York Times article about some library in New Jersey that was across the street from the Junior High. They actually had to start closing between 3 and 5 because the unaccompanied after-school crowd was out of control.

Maybe I don't want to work at a library after all...

Your only choice is to put up a photo of the Gran Canaria besequined skirt, or all of us are just going to assume that you wore a clubbing skirt to work. Which would be totally awesome, you naughty librarian, you, so you must immediately correct our misperception. :-D

OK totally off subject.

I haven't read your blog for a few weeks and found the "holding out for a hero" video very entertaining.

But wait! I don't recognize some of those people! I thought I had seen most everything out there.

So, please have mercy on me and help me compile a list of movies of that genre that haven't seen yet!

Thanks!

The "unaccompanied after-school crowd" from the middle and high schools are what I deal with Every. Day. And I'm here by myself. It's gonna be a loooong summer.

Welcome to my world the other nine months. And the go-to-the-library-kids are the GOOD ones.

That is a good reminder - I must make sure to put "go to library" on our summer schedule!

I bet you're glad we don't live in L****!

OK, duly noted. My legs are bad enough without making people look at them coming out of my ears.

I think the Summer Reading Programs are such a great idea, and I was so happy to hear my 8 year old signed up and wants to try to read 25 books this summer. Yeah, there are prizes and all, but what a great thing! Good luck!

Twenty-five books?? My yearly goal was ten. And I haven't even read one yet. Crap. I'm going to be outdone by an 8-yr-old.

Anyway, when I was in jr. high, I'd go to the library with my friends and read books about sex. There you have it. My dirty little confession.

We went to the library yesterday and I thought of you and the other librarians. It was just me and my three year old. We managed to stay together the whole time. He picked out two books (is it sad that he can run through the stacks to the exact place the Thomas Train books live?) I picked out a couple for him. Then we moved together to fiction, sci-fi/fantasty, and biography to grab my picks.

The Kid said please and thank you to the librarians.

Now, world, IS THAT SO HARD?
