Oh my

Well I'm actually just a bit embarrassed by your response to my birthday blog post. I was expecting a few comments from courageous hitherto-lurkers (and got them--thank you, brave souls!) but didn't expect to hear so many nice things from so many people! Now y'all will think I was fishing for compliments . . . only you don't have to stop. I mean, I would never be one to make you curb a generous impulse, right?

But seriously, that was so, so very nice. And it's great fun for me to read about you cool people I haven't heard from before. I'm thinking we should have a young snarky Mormon librarian summit since it turns out there are quite a few of us.

The lovely Claire asked what my first name is and even though it would be awesome to let the Internet think that my parents named me Nemesis during some drug-fueled comic-book phase in the late 70s, that's not true. Plus my mother has outed me so many times in the comments that there's no sense hiding it now. My name is Stephanie, which I quite like because it meets my "good name" criteria: I could be a serious ball-breaking lawyer with this name. Not that I absolutely want to be, but it's good to have options. Also it's not spelled "Stefinee" or "Stefanny" or any other stupid way, which I appreciate. (Note: if your name is spelled in one of these ways, you're still a good person. Your parents are jerks, but you are good.)

A young woman named Savannah led the music yesterday in Sacrament meeting and I was saddened to find out that her parents (who I consider to be Good People) named her Savann'e. What?!? Who the crap is ever going to assume that an apostrophe goes in her name? Her poor teachers over the years.

"Stephanie" reminds of "Full House." Sorry. Please tell me you don't wear biker shorts and a side ponytail. :)

At book club the other day, they were talking about people who spell their childrens' names horribly wrong and someone named their child 'Nadia' but spelled it "Naughtya." That is just asking for trouble, no?

Wow, thanks. So apparently my guesses of Sariah, Geraldine and Rowena were all wrong. Your parents are obviously very normal. That's sweet you've got such a great following, keep up the good work!

Stefanie? Really? I had NO idea--for some reason, I thought you were a Lori or something like that. :)

Oops! I meant that with a PH!

Speaking of differntly spelled (but in a sexy way) I just saw Fantastic 4 and Ioan is looking lovely. I think it totally worth your hard-earned $7.50 to see him in his tuxedo.

Happy belated birthday, Voice of Reason!

How I remember the first time I met dear Stephanie as a young freshman at BYU, when she had incredibly large hair... (And I had tapered jeans). Those were the good old days. Or maybe these are. I'm not sure.

You don't have to be bitter about not having original parents. You can still change your spelling. You'll be surprised at the advantages it has. "You know we've had several Stephanies apply here but your the first Steffunny. You're hired".

It's the same name people. If you really want a unique name call her Safari. Which I think would be a great name for a girl. Also, it implies that children aren't unique already. "My child isn't a 6 year old. She's a 6 yiir old.

When I read Stephenie Meyer's book "Twilight" I thought she had an unusual spelling of her name. How could I remember the spelling? Then I noticed that every third letter of her first name was an "e," and every second letter of her last name was an "e." Okay, it's weird, but it helps me remember.

So, now I'll remember that your name is like Stephenie's except the middle "e" is an "a."
