You know how sometimes you rave about something for years? And then, when your friends finally experience it, you feel like your precious pet has been violated by coming in contact with the masses and will never be as cool again?

Well, IKEA is so special that I actually don't feel that way. I wish everyone could gain a testimony of IKEA, like I have.

(Not that you haven't known about IKEA for years, or even that you're my friend. I was speaking rhetorically.)

I am so glad they have come to Utah. Trips to the Huntington Beach store kind of got old after a while.

Also, not enough room in my car to bring everything back...

My love for IKEA is endless, and has been for years! But I am a bit upset about the fact that my closest store is now 3 hours from my new home as opposed to the 40 mins from my old one. Yes, I'm sad indeed.

I read the post in Bloglines, and the feed didn't display the Ikea icon. So here I was thinking that you were on a hot date with your psycho stalker mentioned recently, when you were actually browsing the aisles of the Swedish Wal-Mart. I like lingonberries!

I'm kind of anti big stres filled with cheap plastic crap. Can I still keep posting here?

That is supposed to be "stores."

To quote my boy quoting Strong Bad, "I don't care how Swedish your chair is..."

I love Ikea. I think the first thing I want to buy are those small white ceramic bowls that are perfect for ice cream and dipping sauces and things. And they're like less than a dollar or something. Awesome.

I went with my mom yesterday. I felt like a rat in a maze.

Good for you. I've kinda sorta been there three or four or five times since they opened. Which means that I kinda sorta hafta eat my negative words that I kinda sorta mighta said when you asked me about IKEA that wondrous day when we actually met.

Of course, by making this confession in your comments, I no longer have to write that post about how I Must Be One Who Is Now Eating My Words.

What? Are you kidding me? I was there today.

Not that you could spot me in the crowds or anything. Maybe you did see me: I was the one holding the naked baby wrapped in a sling because he eliminated so much his previous outfit (brand new, first time on) was destroyed and my just-in-case onesie was no where to be found.

I love IKEA, as always, but this trip was kind of a nightmare. To top off the other unmentionables, the ONE thing I wanted, the ONE thing I bought, wasn't in the car when I got home.

So long magnetic knife strip...maybe I'll try picking you up again another time.

Bridget, I totally know what you mean. Some things you want to keep all secret and safe. IKEA is not one of those things for me either--I've been telling pretty much everyone in L**** about it for the last 6 months.

Ed, your time has come.

Yeah? I feel you. And I'm really sorry.

Kimberlykv, that's too funny! No, I was not in the arms of my psycho stalker. In fact, there will be a story about that coming along one of these days.

Abby, yes! Yes it has! Now all we need is a Crate & Barrel and some other stuff and then I can be at peace.

STM, I was about to say that I'm anti-stress filled with cheap plastic crap too, but then I saw what you meant. And now you must be dead to me . . . kidding. Cicada and I actually talked about this yesterday--how IKEA is great for getting ideas and getting cheap fun stuff, but you wouldn't want your home to look like one of their catalogs, and you would want to go somewhere else for high-quality items that need to last a really long time.

Nat, which SB email is that? I must watch it!

Jen, I love those too. I don't know where mine went. I actually made my self run through the kitchen area with my eyes partially closed so that I wouldn't be tempted.

Kristen, I know. I accidentally grabbed the wrong thing and didn't realize until we were nearly at the checkout. By the time I fought my way through the crowds, picked up the right thing, and got back to the cart, I was feeling slightly unhinged.

Edgy, Hah! HAH! Hah HAH hah! I laugh triumphantly at my desk! I'm glad you're liking IKEA, and that you were man enough to admit it. And yes, that day was wondrous.

Shut up, Azucar! That would have been so much fun if we could have fought our way through the strollers and gotten together. I was there between 10 - 12:30 am.

It's called "The Chair."

The boy quotes..."So many sweatpants. I can't feel my parts."

psst . . . My sources tell me (as of Tuesday morning, because I received an urgent voicemail message that I had to call my source back because he had HUGE news) that Utah will be blessed with a Crate & Barrell in the near future.

And because the C&B loves you, my wonderful Nemesis, it's going to be located in the F*********/L**** area. I'm checking with my sources again as to when it will be coming, because I do not wish to give you a false timeline for your Ultimate Happiness.

Edgy, I hope you are not making this up, because Oh. My. Gosh. Such things I never thought I would see in my time.

Natalie Gordon said... [reply]

OOOHHH! I love C&B... Once, I carried a C&B pitcher as my carry-on from Columbus to SLC.

But, I can't figure out what is meant by F*********. I've got L****, so I'm going to look at a map.

OK Nem. You totally have to visit me. Sounds like the stores you love are all in an under thirty minute from my house. Trader Joe's is down the road, IKEA is down the freeway and there is a Crate & Barrell even closer. Oh and did I mention, it's a C&B Outlet. That's right an outlet. So yeah, don't you wish you could come visit right now?

love love love Ikea. It's a fabulous starting point... a bit bland when you put too much of it together, but when you're a painter and see all sorts of little designs and patterns that can be put all over everything, that just... there are no words. Just pure bliss!
