You could send me this if you want

My sister Jenny sent me this today after seeing it at Design Mom and of course I love it.

I'd kind of forgotten about the whole Valentine's Day thing. Am pretty sure I won't be getting wined and dined that night, which is fine, since I don't even drink. If I do anything special it will likely involve other women, romantic comedies, and ice cream. Maybe I'll do the VS Pajama Party for real. That would be special, I bet. I would be sure to film it and put it up here for anthropological purposes.

I've moved past the whole bitter Singles Awareness Day phase, and I think it's better to either ignore VD entirely or, as I've discussed before, go back to the way it was when we were kids and it was fun for everyone.

One of my best Valentine's Days ever was a few years ago where my singles ward in Provo sponsored a "Secret Valentine" activity. Everyone who wanted to play signed up, and then the week before VD you were given someone's name (could be a boy, could be a girl). On Valentine's Day everyone received a little something from the person who got their name. It was so much fun because all day you had the thrill of knowing that something good was coming. A boy down the road got my roommate's name but then went above and beyond by delivering small potted flowers to all of us in the apartment. At the end of the day our kitchen table was full of flowers, candy, nice notes, black lace teddies, and every good thing.
That's the way to do it, I think.

Black lace teddies?

I'm spending Valentine's Day eating sushi. And there's talk of an Arizona party since it's Arizona's birthday.

I generally try to avoid Venereal Disease as well . . .

I've always liked Valentine's Day and this is the first year that I'm actually in a relationship. I've always seen it as an occasion to wear pink, red, cream, etc., and make and eat great cookies with girlfriends. Not to mention the romantic comedies.

Allrecipes has some great Valentine's recipes on their site. It would be fun to make a fancy dinner, watch romantic comedies with friends, and be grateful that you're not waiting for 3 hours in the freezing cold outside Applebees. Because you forgot to make reservations to some really overpriced place. We don't really do the Valentine's thing either.

I love the kindergarten style valentines days! Those are the best. Design mom made these circle garlands for her kid's birthday and I am going to make heart ones for the apartment and the kids doorways etc.

And then we will have a heart shaped and pink and red food tea party or something awesome. You should come down. I love how I can use the kids as my 'excuse' to do awesome valentine things.

Hass: So maybe not the teddies. Everything else, though.

Yeah, I was gonna ask about those teddies . . .

I usually send my sisters Valentine's socks. Just because new socks feel so good on your feet and it's fun.

Amandastretch, I'm glad we both have such good goals. :-)

Cicada, didn't you reproduce and frame one of your Valentine's Day outfits once?

Jeri, word on the Applebee's comment. I almost feel bad for all those people waiting outside just because the calendar tells them they HAVE to go out to eat. Almost.

Jenny, I should come down. Or you should come UP, which would also be vg.

Black lace teddies?

And I have also been known to call it Veneral Disease.

I still hate VD as I have a husband who needs a fair amount of hinting and prodding to pull it properly together come holiday, birthday and anniversary time. It really sucks the joy right out of it.

I loved the last paragraph - what a great idea! Now if I could only get the poops around here to try it with me.

I hear it's a good day for Godiva...

One year we stayed in and Joe made a great dinner of grilled shrimp and all nice things. It was great and I loved it. I need to think of something that isn't boring (like going out to dinner with half the free world) to do this year.

Jenny I want to be invited to your tea party.

I really like the librarian card, I think it's adorable. It is, of course, much more wholesome than the card about which I previously blogged.

I think the secret valentine sounds like a pretty good idea and would be a lot of fun. Although, the horrible and cynical part of me assumes that there were people on the activities committee who rigged the random drawing in the hope that when "that special someone" would select them and then in searching for the perfect little gift they would realize how much they want said activities committee conspirator.

I'm really worried I'm going to end up in Utah next year.

You're going to have to come up with a different abbreviation for Valentine's Day than VD. That abbreviation is already taken.
