Have taken a vow of silence to protest the plight of honey bees

Okay, not really. I'm in SLC this week for professional development and just barely got Internet access in my hotel room. (Am still waiting for the in-room massage therapist and the ice cream cart.) Will post soon, especially with stories of yesterday's visit to the Salt Lake City Library. I now want to marry it and have its babies and sleep on the floor of the stacks every night like Natalie Portman in Where the Heart Is (but not pregnant, obviously).

If you have time to take the tour of the SLC Library, do it!! So many amazing elements.

I love that library. It smells of coffee and old books.

I don't know, she did get to marry the cute-curly headed librarian guy. I think Wal-Mart would have more amenities though.

And is it just me, or does Natalie Portman always look like she's about 12?

I really should go hang out in that library sometime before I move back to Provo. I've only been in the new building once.

Wow... little half-human half-library babies... makes me thing of the Dragon/Donkey kids from Shrek!

Hey woman!! I NEED YOU EXPERTISE!!! I have an 18+ hour trip ahead of me to Ethiopia (I leave on the 9th to get my kids) and need a good page turner... I asked people on my blog... post there (www.la-lifeiswonderful.blogspot.com) or reply here... I will check back! But I know you, if anyone, can think of something!!! I need to pass the time and I have not had time to sit down and read something for like 5 years... so this will be the first time in a long time and so you probably could not suggest anything I have already read (unless it is Pride & Prejudice or Sense and Sensibilty)... that is about all I have read in 5 years... except me and Nolan read Harry Potter at night when he does not get in trouble for talking too much in school (wonder where he gets that from? haha.

Anyway, I bow to the Library Goddess and request her input!!!

You came to my library and did not visit me? What is this?

I was planning on doing some professional development myself this week, but then it turned out I have a graduation ceremony to attend and finals to finish and all kinds of stuff that just came up out of the blue. Who knew the end of the semester was RIGHT NOW? Whatever.

A lot of things at this conference looked interesting/fun/useful, but I'm most upset about missing the author breakfast with Brandon Sanderson this morning because I was picking up my cap and gown. Talk about messed-up priorities.

I did teach a preconference workshop on blogging in libraries, though. Does that count for anything?

If you're into saving the bees go buy some honey from our local farmers at Cox Honeyland. Have fun at your conference.

I actually did marry the SLC Library and had several of its babies, but it left me for a cuter, younger reference librarian with a sexy British accent. The feelings of abandonment have lessened with time, but I don't think I'll ever get used to the difficulties of wrapping diapers around those cute but angular little bookshelf baby butts.
