This might seem like me being lazy

But it actually isn't, see.

Since one of my goals for the year is to NOT be a sucky blogger, I'd love to get some input about the kinds of things you'd like to hear about. This way I might actually write things you'd be interested to read instead of doing something creepy like notifying the Internet every morning as to what the color of my belly-button lint was the night before. (Today's answer: dark blue.)

So let's hear it! For instance, I know my sister Jenny wants to hear lots more about the Special Hugs of Marriage. I'm not sure how detailed I really want to get there, but I'll keep her request in mind.

Are there any questions you've been dying to ask ("How do you be so awesome?" "What can I do to be the most special library patron ever?" "Exactly how many times were you dropped as a baby?") or things you'd like to hear my opinion about? (Note: If I do not yet have an opinion on that thing I will go get one right away or at least make one up.)

I'm here for you, friends. And if you have no questions or suggestions then I guess me and my belly-button lint and my one-legged puppy will make it on our own.

Do you know I was just charges $55 in late fees by my local library for 5 late books. Highway robbery! I could have bought those darn books for cheaper! SO... I considee rhat donating to my local library system and I shall never check out from there again because with 7 kids, books get moved from my "Ok everyone this is where library books stay so they don't get lost" pile!

So, if you are really having a slow day you can tell me why the fees are so high, complain about moms like me who have something magic spell on them that makes the library books run under beds, in closets, turned the wrong way on a book shelf STUFFED with children's books, and try to convice me why I should ever go back to the library again (because as of now... I dislike them... and the librarians are mean with no pity... and it was right before Christmas for Pete's sake... cut me some slack... the joke book for the kids was not even funny, no one was looking for it!!!)

You are probably the only person with insight into this matter that I know that does not just say "$55... WHAT THE HECK?!"

(I suppose I was also stuck in the days where late fees were .5 cent a day, so I thought I owed $2-$3 a book... not $10... man times have changed)

How about opine-ing on womens' jeans and fashion in general... I was told recently that women (me) should NOT be wearing jeans that fit too snuggly across their behinding areas. I didn't know exactly how to feel about that, as I don't generally think about how tightly the fabric is fitting in that sitting area, if it doesn't impede with my daily run-around, or if I'm not thinking 'oh my, these things are stopping my ability to bend, reach or sit.'

Special hugs are nice and all, but I also enjoyed your witty discourse on the pros and cons of our current political scene. Really, I’m interested in reading anything that gets a heated debate going.

Also, I think this is a rare forum filled with women (and maybe a couple of men) who are typically categorized with a certain predilection due to their beliefs, but who don’t necessarily skip happily down the yellow brick road of conservative-ism. But don’t get me wrong. I’m not hoping this turns into a political blog or anything. Maybe just temper the sex, drugs, and rock and roll with a little civic banter. That is if this post is open to the random people like me who just stop by this blog occasionally and don’t actually know you.

How about why you love the Dollar Store? I have a theory.

Jen, I think jeans have to be a bit snug there or else they won't stay on even with a belt. The waistband sticks out in the back and slides down and if you try the belt thing then they just bunch up crazy like and then everything just goes wrong. Something for that person to consider.

Nem, I think you should talk more about how L**** is an oasis and how you are so sad to not live there anymore because it is the place where all your wildest dreams can come true.

I think you should blog about people sitting in boring meetings accidentally following links to Homestar Runner without making sure that their lappy is on mute.

Okay, that may not be really interesting to others. My suggestion - just keep up the snarky goodness!

Holy crap, Audra--what is your library charging for late fees now??? Are you sure there were no DVDs in there? That's where people usually get killed. I will write a post on this, but my first piece of advice would be to see Library Elf (http://www.libraryelf.com/) will work with your library's system. It'll send you alerts when your stuff is coming due.

Jenny, I have no idea who would have said something like that. Was it an MC Hammer devotee? Because if jeans aren't snug then you have saggy bottom, which in women's jeans looks gross and ill-fitting. We shall discuss this more.

Nookleerman, there's a political post in the works.

Liz, is your theory that I'm cheap? Hahahah. It's coming.

Spitfire, I don't trust myself to tell that story becuase it might make me too despondent to live. You understand.

Is it too soon to start asking you if the biological clock is kicking into action telling you that you only have so many years before there is no hope of children?

I am kidding of course. I have no idea what your theory is on kids or when you should have them, but I personally enjoyed forgoing the honeymoon baby and instead treasured my husband for a good two years before we invited permanent company.

Natalie, is it wrong that I laughed at the thought of Strongbad's voice interrupting the meeting? Because I did laugh.

Maleen, that kicking in happened about 2 years ago, actually. Oddly, getting married has becalmed it somewhat and made me slightly less frantic about finding the best egg-freezing warehouses.

Audra, I would've just kept the books and changed my name.

Everytime some mentions Homestar Runner it makes me miss Coolboy, who used to come home from school everyday and watch it and yell for me to "Come and See". How I miss his Senior year.

I want to hear more inspiring stories of your renewed faith in humankind.

word verification (no lie): suker

I heart Strongbad.

Yeah, after reading a few too many posts by single women who could suddenly have the SEX after getting married, I determined that I wasn't going to be writing about that so much on my blog. Plus, Jason would probably kill me if I went there on my blog.

I'd like to hear about how your social life is going now that your married. Like, do you try to hang out with other couples? Have you befriended anyone in your new ward? I found that getting married put a huge dent in our social life. Mostly because we're each other's best friend, and the one person we want to hang out with most. But sometimes I wish he had some more guy friends. And I really miss my girl friends who are also smug marrieds and have moved a little to far to hang out regularly. And I haven't really hit it off with anyone in my ward. The couples I like the most have lots of kids, and it can be hard balancing our freedom with their child restrictions. Anyway, I was wondering how it was going for you.

How did you and GH meet? Where should I invest my money? Is there anything wrong with tattoo makeup? Who is Sasha Fierce?

chosha said... [reply]

I like lilcis and Claire's suggestions. I've been struggling to come up with something original (will comment again if I do) but I can tell you a couple of things I'd enjoy reading more of. I've always enjoyed the library stories and as for newer stuff, I like when you discuss the challenging aspects of being a newlywed (compromise, communication, budgeting, etc) but in a fun way. For example most recently, the Christmas tree negotiations and the ways to work out how to appease all parties (travelling and stuff) at Christmas. It's interesting to get an insight into how you are learning to negotiate the 'path to oneness'. :) but with humour not genuine snark. It's really obvious that you love your husband and being married, but you don't talk about it like it magically removes all challenges in life like some cosmic pheromone-based stain remover.

As for the 'special hugs' I like those throwaway 'having a sex life is good' comments. If you were TMI-ing us I'd be squicked out, but you don't, and it's nice to see someone acknowledging one of the obvious and best benefits of relinquishing Singleton status. It's not like we aren't all thinking it. So *high five* on that.

That was kind of a long way to say 'keep up the good work', but at least I'm being specific.

First off let me say my wife and I are addicted to your blog.

Secondly, my thoughts on a blog topic. For purely selfish reasons I would like to know how you came to decide to be a librarian. I am considering library sciences or education for my major. I always like to hear what got someone thinking librarian for their career choice.

Dear Nem,

How DO you be so awesome?

Sincerely,

Bookmobile Shawn

P.S. Strongbad is also awesome. Perhaps you should ditch GH and marry Strongbad instead. Think of all the LOL's/lulz you could share!

I think you should do some sort of weekly wrap-up on Things That Deserved The Eyebrow or something of that nature. I would look forward to that.

Also, while your young married ward probably doesn't offer quite as much blog-fodder as the singles ward, I still have enjoyed all of the RS lesson/people-watching posts over the years.

Can you tell me more about those MP3 Audio Books at the library? I want to get 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' for my son to put on his iPod. But will it stop working on his iPod after 10 or 14 days? I just don't think he'll get thru it in that short of a period.
Thanks,
James

I decided to comment here instead of your most recent post because it seemed to fit here.
In your frustrations with the Newberry, I was wondering what children's and YA books you have recently read and would recommend. I would love for you to write a post on that. As an English teacher, I am always looking for books to read, then pass on as suggestions for my kids. The book my students have recently been fighting over is Road of the Dead by Kevin Brooks. Have you read it?
