The weather is putting me in a coma

So seriously. Each time it starts snowing this week it's like Nature's personal way of saying, "I HATE YOU." Or maybe that's what I'm saying to Nature. Either way, there's hate involved. Also I am becoming sluggish and cannot be bothered to do anything besides glare out the window. I do notice the piles of laundry and the disgusting kitchen and the unmade bed, but all I can do is gesture at them listlessly and think, "What does it even matter? Snow is going to cover us and we will all die in our sleep."

So, get excited for that.

On a happier note, we just booked tickets to visit my parents in Alaska this summer. I'm very excited. We're going in June, when the weather is nicest (read: there is a 25% chance of getting some sunny days). It will be green and lovely and I'm sure my parents will spoil us rotten, because that is their way. There will be fabulous food and relaxing walks and a dog to play with and every good thing.

GH has never been to Alaska and I think it's about time. He's not so sure. I think he worries that as soon as I hit Alaskan soil I will suddenly reveal my Alaskan Wilderness Girl alter ego and will suddenly clad myself head-to-toe in fleece and start shooting animals and fishing for salmon with my bare hands and possibly growing a beard. While demanding that he do the same.

I swear, it's like he doesn't even know me. Although I suppose I can be grateful that I found possibly the one man on earth whom I could marry without suspecting that he has any secret "this woman is my ticket to Alaska" motives.

Trust me GH, she doesn't have any of those tendencies. She's exactly the sissy that she seems to be, no matter her location.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I just checked your five-day extended weather forecast. More cold and snow through Tuesday.

And GH...Coolboy is correct, Nem is a sissy girl. However, rather than growing a beard, she may not shave her legs for the duration of her visit. Not sure if that is an issue or not.

What part of Alaska? I lived in Sitka for a summer and every time the sun came out the whole city pretty much shut down and we all frolicked in the streets in shorts and tank tops, even though it was probably still like 60 degrees outside. It was awesome.

Darn, I guess I missed the boat on the last man on earth who doesn't want to live in Alaska. I have found there are many men that suddenly become *very* interested when I mention I'm from Alaska.

And I have to admit I've even played that up a bit in the past (even though, like you, I am a "sissy girl"... your father's words, not mine) and pretend that I actually enjoy doing things in the great outdoors. But that got me into trouble... like mountain climbing on dates... makes me look really bad.

So now, when I tell guys where I'm from and they get all excited, I make sure to crush that dream as quickly as possible.

Wonder why I'm still single? Does GH have any single brothers perchance?

Coolboy, I know! And frankly, I'm hurt that he would suspect otherwise.

Dad, I don't even want to hear about it. We'll see if I live long enough to visit. And not shaving my legs in Alaska would be different from any other week because . . . ?

Dasha, we'll be in the Anchorage area, that's where my parents live. And yep. Same reaction to the sunshine there.

Carly, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. Because yeah, they hear the word "Alaska" and that's pretty much it. Sometimes I let this work to my advantage, but other times I had to do the honest thing and squash the dream. Also, I think being from Alaska is unfair because it carries all this baggage and perceived qualities with it. Suddenly boys can't like you JUST because you're hot and witty and interesting. (I mean NORMAL interesting, not "check out my latest kill" interesting.)

Good times . . .

And no, GH comes from a family of sisters. It has molded him into a pretty easy-going guy, but provides no "hooking a sister up" possibilities.

Um . . . its freezing and miserable here, but on the upside I just booked plane tickets for ALASKA?

Of course, in about three months it will be mind-melting hot in SLC, so it was probably a good call.

Dude, If I actually knew you, and if my tendencies leaned towards those of the female persuasion, I would definitely have "this woman is my ticket to Alaska" secret motives. Or maybe I would want to be your very best friend so that you would invite me along for Thanksgiving or something. What I'm saying is that it's not just a guy thing.

You sea level pansy.

Also: I scored a guy for whom Alaska holds no mystery or desire.

Ugh. I'm totally with on the "I want to roll over and die if it snows one more time" thing. It's times like these when Arizona starts sounding really good.

And on a completely unrelated note, I don't know if you've seen this, Nem, but we're organizing an IS editors reunion on Facebook. Our dear friend Cicada will be hosting it at her place in a few weeks. Just thought you'd like to know.

Oh, never mind. It looks like you did already see it.

STM, June is a gorgeous time to be in Alaska, believe me. Or, at least, it has the greatest chance of being gorgeous.

Lady Susan, I did not realize it was a girl thing too! This is interesting to consider . . .

Azucar, I already told you what you are. And congrats on scoring the other one!

Jonathon, I've already RSVPd. I'm so there.

For going on 20 years now or so I've wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise. Maybe some day.

If you do turn into Sarah Pallin when you touch Alaskan soil, I would be very afraid for GH.

I miss Alaska. I threaten to take my wife there, and she says she actually wants to go. Just not in winter (you remember, all 9 months of it!).

Takes A LOT of pics when you do get up there so I be incredibly envious of you!

I would like pictures so there is proof of this fish catching w/hands and beard growing. Or I won't believe you.
