Goin' Doooown the Bayou . . .

Over the Christmas break, the Gentleman Husband and I took a little overnight getaway to the nearby Anniversary Inn. My sweet mother-in-law watched the Tiny Dark Lord for us and they had a great time together.

When we arrived to check in, they told us there was a water problem in the room we'd booked. The water from the hot tub upstairs was causing a leak, and they were very sorry about this but could we please choose a different room. When I joked that I didn't suppose we could just knock on the door upstairs and ask them to pretty please not use their hot tub the girl shook her head emphatically and said, "No, I met them and they are scar--I mean, I wouldn't recommend that." So. There went that idea. GH wondered the next morning if the "scary couple" in question were the ones he heard fighting all night, probably in preparation for breaking in and robbing us, just before he heard the sirens he hoped belonged to the police coming to arrest our scary fighting thief neighbors. You may remember that GH tends to overreact to sounds he hears in hotels.

Our remaining choices were either Hawaiian Paradise (wasn't feeling it for the rattan or the tiki lights) or Cajun Romance (complete with bayou, gator, a king-sized Intelli-gel bed and a really amazing shower). Because nothing says "It's Business Time" like large, semi-aquatic carnivorous reptiles.

Really am not sure how this is romantic.
Maybe Steve Irwin would have dug it, bless him.

I chose the good shower and bed, even if there was an open-mouthed alligator watching said bed the entire time. The shower really was heaven. It was the size of my current bedroom, and came with a regular shower head, one of those rainfall ones that come out of the ceiling, and 4 jets coming out of the wall. I may have made sounds in there. (My shower at home is so gross, friends. The only sounds it inspires are the gasps at the sudden change in water temperature/pressure and the gags as I clean out the drain. The postpartum-hair-falling-out thing took a while to kick in but now . . . yikes. I am talking tarantulas of hair every day.) The bed was also lovely, and I slept for 10 hours in that thing. Seriously need to think about a king-sized bed down the road. So I think I made the right choice, even if I did keep breaking out into songs from Disney's The Princess and the Frog.

If you had your pick, which room would you stay in? And if any of you say the Twilight rooms we are no longer friends. I bet those things come with cold showers and glittering body lotion.

o.k. Maybe it is just me, but when I am looking for a hotel room, I just want a nice hotel room. Not something out of a theme park. I just took a glance at all of the "themes" and am feeling overwhelmed by it all.

Lady Susan, I feel you. For me it's not so much about the themes as it is about the nice beds, showers, hot tubs, & breakfast delivered to your door. There are only two places in Logan where you can get that (the other one is the very nice Providence Inn) and of the two, the Anniversary Inn is the one where I find the best deals (coupons, LivingSocial vouchers, etc).

And they're not all tree houses and igloos. Some of the rooms are just nice. :-)

THEY HAVE TWILIGHT ROOMS?!?! That's it, the Mayans were right. The downfall of civilization has to be now.

Ok, and did anybody else notice that the elephant's tusks in the "Sultan's Palace" room at 5th South have apparently been poached? What the what?

Ok, and I'll admit it. The Swiss Family Robinson room (again, at 5th south) looks pretty dang cool. I mean, a waterfall coming into the tub?! Genius. And the Hacienda room (Logan) looks super cool.

But yeah, the alligator majorly creeps me out. In fact, most of those rooms don't really bring out the romance, in my opinion.

When I was engaged we took a tour of the Anniversary Inn, and the Armstrong Mansion. We choose the Armstrong Mansion because of it's Victorian Charm. I am completely in love with that old house. But I do remember liking the Swiss Family Robinson room at the Anniversary Inn. I love a good tree house.

Oh my gosh, I never knew that place existed, but now I kind of want to work my way through ALL of the rooms. Well, maybe not so much the Twilight rooms. But everything else. Look! In Dodge City you sleep in a covered wagon!

My MIL, bless her, bought Jason and me, and Brandon and Sarah a night at the Blue Boar Inn in Midway while we were in Utah. It was lovely! I have to say, the whole romantic getaway is a very good gift.

I just don't see how one can feel romantic in the "Biker Room" or "Treasure Island". But maybe that's just me. There were only a few I could tolerate and even fewer that I would really like. I think my fave is the "Romeo and Juliet" room with that gorgeous staircase leading to the bed upstairs.

Now I just need to find someone to have an anniversary with. Or maybe not. Would it be weird to just get a room there for myself? ;-0

Okay so go ahead and judge but now that I've taken a closer look at that Twilight Suite I think it actually looks pretty nice, vampire swag notwithstanding.

Wonder why nobody has done a room inspired by Breaking Dawn--you could have torn feather pillows scattered around, gouges in the headboard, complimentary pregnancy tests, etc.

Liz, I bet the tusks were a safety hazard. If you like awesome faucets, the ones in my room were pretty cool--they were like this, but plain white.

Barefoot Cassandra, I think the Armstrong Mansion looks beautiful. We stayed in a Victorian-like room at the Providence Inn for our 2st anniversary and loved it.

Kelly, your MIL is cool! I've heard that the Blue Boar Inn is pretty great. And seriously, the next time you are in UT we need to try to hook up! (Umm . . . that sounded wrong.)

Liesl, I'm glad you appreciated it. :-)

Goddessdivine, I say it's worth it to go do as a Ladies' Night. The hot tub may be a bit more cozy than you'd want to get with a friend, though.

Well, "worth it" if you want to spend that much on a hotel. On a weekend. If you get a deal thought it's great.

Oh, let me tell ya ladies, NOTHING says romance more than your nakey hairy hubby wearing a pirate patch

ON HIS EYE! (get your minds out of the gutter!)

in the Pirates Paradise room.

(Not that I'm speaking from experience here or anything).
