Rejoice with me!
This morning, I had a shower.
And I'm nearly bursting into tears of joy right now, just remembering it. The shower is finished and it is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! The bathroom walls are Tiffany & Co blue, and the shower tile is white and gorgeous and I got to take a shower this morning in it.
The water was hot and the pressure was perfect and my hair lathered up just right and I never once had to use a jug. It was the first shower I've had in a month, and it was glorious. I can only remember having one shower in my life that was better than this one. It was after a long hot dirty camping trip, and when I stepped into the water I may have involuntarily made sounds, it felt so nice. Also it was at someone else's house, and they could probably hear me at the time (thanks again, Kar!). But enough of that.
My new shower: perfect and beautiful. From now on, baths will only be a part of my life when I'm in the mood for lots of bubbles, scented candles, soft music, and a good hour-long soak/nap.
Thank you for being a part of this special time.
Now I have to get back to writing a paper, which appropriately enough is about blogging. I wish I could count this as research or something . . . Oh! Maybe you guys can help! If your public library or university library weblog had an RSS feed, would you even know what that meant or what to do with it? Discuss.

Nope---I have absolutely no clue what an RSS feed is. I'll be the first to say it so that I don't have to say it after everyone else knows exactly what it is. I know I've seen those words before...
And I'm so glad about your shower. When a mission comp of mine moved from one apartment where you had to hold the shower head at all times to a new apartment that had a mount, she exclaimed, "I've got a free hand! I've got a free hand! I just don't know what to do with myself in the shower now!" And we all giggled, because we're immature little girls who don't know what RSS feeds are.
Uh . . . grumbeer? Your questions terrify me, but since I actually know you and can probably vouch that you're not an Internet predator, I'll answer.
1. The washing of hair comes right before the conditioning.
2. No singing this morning, on account of sleeping Lady J two doors down.
3. Right now I'm using generic Biolage, because I like the way it smells.
4. I hop with both feet together. It's very safe.
5. Actually, maybe you are an Internet predator . . .
And Cicada, thanks on the RSS feed thing. I didn't know what one was either until I started this paper!
I don't know what an RSS feed is. All I know is that my favorite institution, for which I write, apparently has one. And apparently people are disturbed when the RSS feed isn't working. Except not so disturbed that they notice in less than a year.
No idea what an RSS feed is. Never even heard of it.
But in the last area of my mission, the elders came over and rigged up a shower for us. They took this hose, that started out at the (2 gallon max) hot water heater over the kitchen sink (which you had to prime and fire up by hand every time you wanted hot water, because there is no running hot water in that country), strung it up to the ceiling, and then down to the bathroom. Then they put a shower head on the end and attached it to the wall. It was the first shower I'd had in a year, and it was so very, very wonderful, even though the hot water heater would run out really fast, and the door wouldn't quite close, on account of the hose being in the way. I don't think we ever set foot in the the tub again. Congratulations to you!
I think an RSS feed has something to do with getting a notification when your favorite blogs have been updated. But I have no idea what it looks like or how to use it.But if that is what it is I'd be happy to learn because it would save me a lot of time throughout the day! Time that I could spend working, or studying. On second thought . . .
Grumbeer, I'll have to just take your word on that one, there.
And okay, good that no one else knows what an RSS feed is! All the articles I'm reading say things like "I think a blog is nothing without an RSS feed" but we are all bloggers and don't even care. Granted, I'm sure they'll become a bigger deal and everything, but stil. I have one now, by the way. Or possibly 2 (the email subscribe and the XML button at the bottom of the sidebar).
I just couldn't bear for my blog to be nothing . . .
I have no idea what you are talking about (the RSS feed).
I'm glad about your shower. Just as long as you don't start sounding like the Herbal Essence commercials (yeah, you know what I'm talking about).
I began looking into RSS feeds when I started the blog...but I am still not really sure what one is...however, you have inspired me to go ahead and get one.
The shower sounds devine - how can you go wrong with Tiffany & Co. blue?
Again, thank you to everybody with the validation. None of us know what those RSS guys are. I started reading about them for this project, and then j alfred read my blog and was like, "Hallo, have a scone, and have you considered an RSS feed."
Basically it's a newsfeed of a blog, made with XML. Subscribers can have new posts sent to them as soon as they're published, which is good for people who keep up with lots of blogs and don't want to keep checking on all of them all day long. (Although if you ask me, those people don't know what fun is.)
You can either do an "email subscribe" thing, like the form I have on the sidebar, or you use something called an aggregator service, which sends you stuff from the blogs that you want.
There. Doesn't everybody feel enriched now?
WAY too many details about your personal bathing experience if you ask me. :)
Also, I'm starting to find people at work and church and Walmart who do not even know you who are avid readers of your blog. Many do not comment but read frequently. Look how popular you are (sing Wicked with me....)! Perhaps you can start charging folks soon, in manner of Eric Snider, only much better looking, of course.
OOOOOH! I SEE!
I thought the RSS feed was the annual enrichment-night dinner.
Mmmm...the Relief Society Sister feed...powerless...to...resist.
I know what an RSS feed is, but I don't use one. I should since I follow so many blogs. I attended a workshop on them at a library conference so I know they are definately a hot topic in the library world.
Congrats on the shower. I wouldn't have handled taking baths as well as you have.
I think about taking a bath . . . and then I think about my bathtub . . . eww.
That sounds so wonderful!! When I lived that summer in Oregon with the troubled youth...we only got to shower 1x/week...I died for those showers...they were communal and cold...but they were showers. When I got back to Utah...I found myself stopping to stare at wonderful things like the toilet, running water, my beautiful shower-head. Congratulations Nem, it's about time!
Hee. Are you serious, Amyjane? How does that even come up? I hope you make sure to tell those people about how you wouldn't let me sing in the mornings back when we lived together.
That was really funny, Stupid. You're a witty one, y'are.
Thanks jersey girl! Do you work in a library or something?
Limon, exactly. Of course, my bathtub is not used by 6 gross boys, so I was a little better off, but still.
Gosh Panini, I never knew you were a troubled youth! ;-)
I had no idea I could subscribe to your blog. I guess I never scroll down far enough or don't pay as much attention to the right side. I feel better knowing what RSS stands for; although if I had to define it, I would fail miserably.
So I subscribed, and I feel special. Actually you should feel special too, that someone has subscribed (although I'm sure you have many subscribers--you're just so dang popular).
Yes I know what an RSS feed is, and what I would do with it is to add it to my Bloglines feeds so that I'd be informed if they updated the page. Which is how I know when to come read your blog. :)
I'm a librarian so I do work in a library.
Limon, you should get JB to clean your tub.
Yay, Kristen subscribed! I think you still have to come to the blog to comment, though. Otherwise I'll cry.
Chosha, you win the Smarty Pants Who Is Up With Technology Award for the day. You deserve some chocolate!
Jersey Girl, that's cool! I won't ask where or anything, but I'm sure you're a fabulous one.
Anon, don't you be bringing that mess over here. :-)
I haven't had time to comment until right now, but I've been rejoicing with/for you anyway! :)
Thanks for being happy for me, Jess! (Is it okay if I call you Jess? If it's not, you just say the word and I will type out the whole thing.)
And hello my brother! I can't really express sympathy for that story so much, since that sounds like What You Get. But I'm so glad to see you on here and that you haven't been used for target practice over in Iraq or anything!
You can call me Jess! I also go by JB. That's even easier to type! ;)
