Spring forward! Or, you know, don't. Up to you.

Sunday was the day when everyone moved their clocks ahead by one hour. Only it turns out that Landlady J and I are not everyone, since neither of us remembered to do it. We both got up at the normal time, got ready, went to church, and then it STILL took us both a really long time to figure out that something was off.

In my case, I walked into the nursery and thought, "Huh. Why are they having snacktime at the beginning?" The other teachers figured out what had happened before I did, but they were too nice to say anything. It wasn't until parents started showing up to get their kids that I became all befuddled and the other girls started laughing at me.

But hey, shorter church! And it was sunny and 60 degrees that morning, and we took the kids out to look for birds, and I wore my kicky red skirt and displayed my Johnson's Holiday Skin legs. And no, I'm not vain or superficial. It's a public service, on account of I'm pretty sure no one in Gran Canaria (or England, or the space stations orbiting the earth) wants to be blinded by my vampire-white legs.

Of course, the nice weather only lasted long enough for me to walk home from church, all in love with the sunshine and mankind. I even got a honk from a carload of baseball-cap-and-gold-jewelry-wearing youths, that's how hot I looked. Once I was safely home it started raining.

Also it was Mothering Sunday, which turns out to be have a completely different history than Mother's Day in the States. Here it goes back to the tradition of sending kids who were working as apprentices or servants home on the 4th Sunday of Lent for some mothering. I guess on the other 364 days of the year they were told to suck it up and stop being such crybabies.

Yeah, we have to wait until next Sunday to spring forward. I love daylight savings time. It's going to be even more awesome in Indiana since we are on Eastern Time and should really be on Central Time. It's not going to get totally dark until, like, 11 at night in the summer. Sweeeeet.

The only thing I hate about spring forward is losing that extra hour. I'm already struggling to get up in the morning and get to work on time. But hey, whatever makes it feel like spring!

That's pretty flattering that some hoodlums (sp?) did a drive by honking. I hope you feel special.

We got out of church 20 minutes early for Mother's Day--but that was mostly because our 3 speakers finished early and the Bishop didn't feel like getting up and speaking to us for 20 minutes. Also I got flowers because my local leaders don't know what to do with a woman who is 30, still single, and childless--actually they had some flowers left over and figured that rather than toss them out they might as well give one of them to me. I wore the lovely corsage for the rest of the day until it was publically noted that I and Sis. Turnbow (the female half of a senior missionary couple and a fellow American) were the only women still wearing their flowers. For some reason a great deal of delite was taken in the backwardness of our American custom of wearing our corsages.

Yeah, I was a little thrown when you informed me that I had missed daylight savings. I seriously sat here and wondered if possibly I was an hour late for work and how could that even be....Good thing for me that it's not till next week here in America.
Also, I totally forgot about Mother's Day. Does that mean a new present holiday for me this year? Yippee! Actually, I can't wait till I start getting those charming dandelion bouquets from my little darling! :)

Sweet is right, Hass. I've been looking forward to this ever since December when it was dark by 4pm.

Oh, I do feel special, Kristen. I do. And how is your new house???

Wait, Streets, so how long to people wear corsages here? 5 minutes? And have you noticed that they wear them upside down??

Yep, more presents for you. Rub. It. In. ;-)

No idea, e, but it only lasts a few days. I'm much happier with the ones where it's a moisturizer with a little bit of tanner, though. Because then I don't get orange legs, which are disgusting.
