Wow. Shivered MY timbers.
So I saw Pirates last night and it was ever so much fun. I didn't like it as much as the first one (too many different plot threads happening at once) but it was still quite the adventure.
Also, I think I am probably a genius. Or a seer. Or something. When you see the film you'll know what I mean, because I'm not about to give anything away.
One of my favorite "I am a movie geek" parts was when a pistol-wielding Elizabeth and the villianous British official Cutler Beckett have a face-off early in the film. Keira Knightley was Elizabeth Bennett in last year's Pride & Prejudice, and Tom Hollander was the smarmy Mr. Collins. I'm going to call it "The Proposal Scene--Now with Guns!" I'm sure Lizzy was wishing for a gun last time around . . .
When you do see the film, it may save you some jaw-dropping to keep in mind the part where pretty much everyone is a sneaky liar. Except for that doogoder Will. Just, you know, keep that in mind.
One more weak point: A couple of people did and said things that seemed completely out of character with things that they did and said in the first film. I had a slight beef with that.

Wow. Thanks for the P&P connection. Now I have YET ANOTHER thing to look forward to!
I'm going tomorrow night! So excited!
At work today, we were talking about this movie, as the paper had some reviews about it. 4 different people said, "Oh, I never saw the first Pirates", and I was like, "WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?"
I've heard good and bad things about it, but, because I love me some J. Depp, I'm sure I'll see it. But, probably at a dollar theater, instead. :)
I saw it last night, and I would like to say that thanks to this post, I knew exactly what "I think I am probably a genius" was referring to, so you spoiled it for me. Some friend you are.
I just saw it! Who knew Jack was straight?!
I went to see it last night. We drove all the way to town and it was sold out. Too Bad.
I'm probably going to see it here in California later this month, cause they run thing's forever here. Now in Montpelier...the run EVERY movie for 1 week, no more.
Saw it opening night in Boston downtown. Great fun, plenty of audience members dressed as pirates. Completely sold out. Quite and ambitious film, and pretty stinkin' long. But I had a blast.
I think Johnny would make a fine Mr. Darcy. Then I can die with the greatest sense of satisfaction known to humankind. When's the next remake coming out?
Oh! Johnny Depp as Mr. Darcy! I LUV it!
I was just so relieved that they didn't set off to rescue Johnny... I was already about to poke my eyes out. In fact I almost cried when the credits started to roll. And THAT is why you should never see a movie with me that starts at 9.35.
