It's all in my head

Last night I wrote a slightly paranoid, angsty email to my Circle of Truth (Daltongirl, Sakhmet, & Cicada). During the night I dreamed that they all wrote back and talked me down with comforting, reality-based words. This was not much of a stretch for my subconscious, because that's pretty much what's guaranteed to happen once they get on the ball and get to their computers. They also told me I was pretty and a wonderful writer, which kind of came out of nowhere but was still appreciated by me. You ladies are the best.

The dream that I hate is my Theme Dream. It's the one where I'm trapped inside a house that is being attacked from the outside. I'm usually babysitting or somehow in charge of young, small, helpless people. I have to run around to lock all the doors and windows before the monsters come crashing through. The house and the monsters change. Sometimes they're werewolves or vampires or really jerky Nazis. Once they were Japanese soldiers--my apologies to the good people of the Japanese armed forces, but I'd probably just watched Paradise Road or some awful thing. It's a scary, scary dream, and it never has a resolution. I just wake up in a panic. I get it when I'm stressed out.

Does anyone else have any recurring dreams they'd like to share?

I dream about being chased by things. On a boat being chased by whales; at my grandparents house in the High Uintahs by mountain lions, Native Americans or aliens; in my dorm at college which was across the street from a cemetery dead people would dig themselves out and come after me.

Or the one where I am running as hard as I can and cannot move from the spot I am in. Just running in place really hard.

Or missing the bus at high school. I have been out of high school for 10 years.

I used to have really convincing dreams that I was pregnant. And I didnt know how. And I would run into ladies from my mom's RS at the grocery store who would tell me to eat creamed corn because it's good for the baby.

So convincing that I would wake up and feel my stomach to make sure it was a dream.

I dream in technicolor and everything is very vivid. I have espionage dreams all the time, like I'm working with a McGuyer/Jack Bauer type and we have to escape the bad guys after foiling their plans.

Then there's the dream that I'm swinging from flag-like pieces of fabric like a trapeze artist, then I fall and fall and fall and wake up feeling like my bed just ate me.

Then there's the dream that I open up my dresser drawers to find cute kittens inside, mewing at me. But when I reach in to pet them, they bite me with their razor sharp teeth.

And these are just the recurring ones. I have much crazier ones on a frequent basis. Makes me wish I had gone for my Masters in child psychology as I had originally planned. I could've taken a "hidden meanings in dreams" class. One of these days...

I've started having dreams about bears lately. One came and ate my dog.

Oh my goodness, yes, I'm so glad you asked,'cause it's driving me crazy and maybe someone out there in internet world knows what it means.

I dream that either my teeth are falling out, or my mouth is filling up with stuff that I have to remove by the handful. Anything from steel wool to really sticky carmel. It's so frustrating and it's ruining what might otherwise be perfectly happy dreams. I seriously dream some variation of this every other night! What on earth does it mean?

Anyone? Anyone?

Singin' in the Rain, the tooth-losing dream signifies a loss of innocence, I have no idea about the mouth-stuffing dream, but the fact that it is not good for you and/or lethal might signify that you are worried about shifting priorities or something.
I have had recurring nightmares about being chased by and fighting vampires since jr. high. And I usually have to protect people too. The worst part of the dreams are that if I'm about to be killed, my brain rewinds the dream to the beginning, and I have the dream repeatedly until I figure out a way to beat the vampires. Which means I don't get very much sleep the nights I have vampire dreams. Ugh.

Bless You Scully, and all of your family. Hmm loss of innocence, that's interesting these dreams started after I got pregnant. How very telling.

Good luck with the vampires.

Scully: Can you explain the bears?

(note---the bear was not threatening me directly)

Nem: Maybe you should host a dream-interpretation forum. (Well, I guess you sort of are.)

When I am pregnant I dream like once a week that Ed leaves me for some younger, non pregnant person and I have to go back to college and get a master's to be marketable and I have small children and my life is over and it's horrible. And I have to move to Alaska and live with my parents. So horrible. Normally I try and make myself go back to sleep and dream something else.

The one I've had lately is that people keep trying to convince me I should go tanning. So deep, I know.

I always have dreams about trying and trying to go somewhere but never getting there. Like I'm trying to get to school but the car breaks down and then I miss the bus, etc. These dreams get even worse when I'm more stressed. I always wake up feeling frustrated by them.

In my recurring dream our neighborhood is always under attack by terrorists and I’m constantly running and finding new places to hide until eventually they find me. Then I aim my hand gun at them, pull the trigger, and nothing happens. I am always out of bullets! Every single time! Hopefully this isn’t a deep message about me not being prepared, like the five virgins wihtout oil. Yikes!

Or I dream about eating lots and lots of hot dogs and when I wake up I'm always surprised when there's not one there.

My worst dreams normally involve an inability to find things. There's a feeling of great frustration. They end when I realise that the problem is that I can't see anything because my eyes aren't open because I'm asleep. Then I wake up and can't get back to sleep.

Mine used to be that I was at university and it was the end of the semester. At that point, I find out that there is one, or several, classes for which I registered and forgot to attend. I am still responsible for passing the class. It's a stress dream. It occurs less now that I'm out of school, but reoccur it does.

You're pretty. And you're a good writer.

Would not be appropriate to share my recurring dream here. Suffice it to say that one time a psychology grad student used it in her thesis.

I'm considering using something like your Pure Red china design in my new bathroom. It's going to be lovely. I hope it doesn't make me hungry or make me dream about food. That would be a drawback I think.

Ooh. But I just remembered that right after I got divorced I used to have the recurring dream of committing violent murder on different men. I would slash their throats with broken dishes, and blow their heads off and stuff. It was awesome. Then I went through the whole forgiveness thing and stopped dreaming that stuff. Once in a while when the ex-husband acts up I'll have another one. SO fun!!

I do have recurring dreams and also dreams that follow on from each other, but darned if I can remember one right now. I forget my freams within about half an hour of waking, but I've often woken to realise I've dreamt something that I dreamt about before.

Occasionally I dream whole stories that could be movies, or scenes from movies, which is so cool! I will also dream in the mode of things I've filled my head with that day or week, so I've had dreams where I was controlling everyone as if they were Sims people, or where I'm in a 'made up in my head' episode of a TV show.

I rarely dream about real people, but when I do it tends to be conversations that could really have happened.
