I dreamed someone scratched my new nonstick pan. It was bad.

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes, I did have a lovely day. The night before the bday was not so good thanks to my computer, which you will remember as having been featured on this site before. I affectionately refer to her as the Computer of B****-Faced DEATH.

Anyway, it's that time of year when I reinstall Windows. And this time I somehow installed Windows onto both my computer and my external hard drive and wiped out everything--all my music, digital photos, documents, everything. So I spent the night in helpless tears, and GH had to leave for work (he works graveyard) and I just sat there sniffling at my computer.

I eventually managed to track down all the most important stuff, though. The only things that are gone forever are my 2007 pics (which was a sucky year anyway) and the last month or so of England. But those are on Flickr so I at least have jpeg copies if not the originals. Live and learn, I suppose. Also I need to write a message (in blood) on the laptop cover to remind myself: "Warning!!! Will destroy your files AND YOUR SOUL if given the chance. You knew what I was when you picked me up."

So that's what I was doing until 2:30am.

Which made waking up to flowers, balloons, and breakfast in bed a delightful, delightful thing. Later had homemade chocolate-hazelnut birthday cake rolled in toasted coconut, courtesy of Jenny, with ice cream courtesy of coolboy and Italian sodas courtesy of Cicada and Murray.

Got lovely presents from GH, one of which appeared to be a Jack Bauer action figure.

Me: Um . . . . ?

GH: Oh. That one's for me. I figured you got so many presents that I could get one too.

Me: Really.

GH: Yep. Plus it was on clearance for 5 bucks instead of 30.

[Note: Also known as $6.44. And I can't believe there are people who would have paid $30 for that.]

So we now have Jack Bauer statuary in our home. I know I feel safer.

I should try GH's theory with wedding presents. I got you what your registered for and well I figured you had so much stuff I deserve these new sheets at Bed Bath & Beyond. I like his thinking!

Most women would be more grateful to have Jack Bauer in their home.

Oh man! I love the "You knew what I was when you picked me up" story/church video. I use that line all the time.

probably the only man ever who will get away with that!:-)

Hahaha! That is the trick I play on Levi all the time. I always round down to the lowest $5 mark. If I treated myself to an $8 lunch... "Oh honey, sorry I was out and not around home, so I picked me up lunch for about $5!" I am happy to know I am not the only one to use that trick!

Happy Belated Birthday! I have no good excuse for being late, but am glad you had a good one. Especially after the dreaded computer crapola.

Forget the alarm system--you have your very own Jack Bauer. Yay!!

I want a Jack Bauer thingy too! He's the man!

Plantboy wanted to decorate our second apartment with "vintage" GI Joe figures from his "childhood" box. If only a husband's childhood could actually be contained in a box . . . .

At least you got Kiefer Sutherland. Last time Joe wanted some clearance statuary, it was Snoop Dog. The excuse was "the car has real working hydraulics!"

Happy Birthday!

I think Jack Bauer should make a cameo apprearance in the U-Tube "I Need A Hero" montage, and I second Coolboy's opinion.

Nice to see Librarian 2 is still around. I look forward to many lovely comments from her.

What a bargain! I just paid $16.50 for an action figure (I know, I know, but I've been waiting for months for eBay to offer me one). I'm not sure if Jack's going to offer you much protection. People around him usually get kidnapped. ;)

Happy birthday!

You need a Mac. Very stable, very non-bitchy, very sleek.

Time to start dropping hints for the next big holiday (Veterans' Day).

Chosha: Be that as it may, Jack gets them back. Hard.

If you haven't done a lot of file activity on the hard drive, you can still recover some of the files. I have used software called something like "Active File Recovery" (I believe -- don't have it handy) before in an emergency.

The more times you write to the drive of course, the more likely you are to permanently destroy and "deleted" partitions/files.

Email me if you want more info.

I love the idea of buying yourself a present when you get one for someone else. I buy myself presents every now and then. You'll have to keep us posted on what else he gets for himself.
