I don't want to bee-eee . . . a murderuhhhhhh

Sorry I'm lame. Remember how I didn't like that Rihanna chick or her Unfaithful song? Yeah, still don't, and yet I'm quoting here. Sigh.

This is my first week at the new full-time job, so I'm a bit busy. Also I'm dealing with a family of birds who are trying turn my dryer hose into their winter home. I guess that's the downside to drying everything on a clothes rack--it encourages nesting in the unused appliances. My current strategy is to turn the dryer on whenever I hear the tell-tale crackle of the shiny hose material, but I really had to steel myself to do it. First I had to make sure that there are no baby birds this time of year. Because I really couldn't stand the idea of shooting baby birds out of their cozy nest into a 3-story death spiral. That's just bad karma, that is. (If there ARE, in fact, baby birds this time of year, don't tell me. Just don't.)

It is quite the life I live.

WHAT? You don't like Rihanna?

Well, uh, it was nice being friends with you and all. Hope you have a nice life.

I try to be green, but I must admit to loving my dryer after living for a year and a half in a humid climate and always line-drying. I think it takes a different mind-set than I have.

You could have scrambled eggs for breakfast...

Not to scare ya, but if they build a nest, it could block up your vent and be a fire hazard. If you are living in an apartment you should get the maintenance guys to put on one of those vents that only opens when air blows out of it. If you are in a house, get to the hardware store and buy one for $5 and put it on yourself. No dead birds and no burned down house.

I totally had birds living in my dryer vent when I lived on my own a couple years back... but my roommates and I didn't have a dryer. So, once we heard some odd noises coming from our laundry closet and decided to open it up to see what was going on and had two birds flying about our apartment for nearly an hour until we finally got them to fly out our patio door. We taped that sucker up nice and tight shortly there after.
