Feeling Glee-ful

Reasons why I am enjoying the new show Glee perhaps a little too much:

I am a geek who did band/orchestra/drama in high school.

The music, like this number from the premiere.

Cutie-pie Matthew Morrison as Spanish-teacher-turned-Glee-coach Will Schuester

Jane Lynch as cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester

Sue Quotes:

"You think this is hard? Try being waterboarded, that's hard!"

"Lady justice wept today."

Sue (while offering Will an iron tablet): "Keeps your strength up while you're menstruating."
Will: "I don't menstruate."
Sue: "Yeah? Neither do I."

Waiting for Rachel and Finn to get together.

Waiting for Teacher Will and Guidance Counselor Emma to get together.

The moment when Teacher Will, um, sort of takes his jacket off and starts dancing around and suddenly it's kind of awesome because I did not even know Teacher Will was just walking around with arms like that. Even if he is singing a song that Kanye "I Kick Puppies and Clearly Have a Disorder of Some Kind" West wrote. (See below.)

Puppy-kicking disorder. I love it. The man does need some sort of professional help. But this clip was sort of rad.

Not only is Will the teacher a looker, but he's got some moves. Might have to check that show out.

I think Kanye pulls little girls' hair, too.

(Disclaimer)

Note to those who are planning to check out the show: Some of it can be a bit PG-13 at times. I am saying this now so that nobody blames me later.

Aaaagh! I was just thinking about this show the other day and wishing I could watch it (instead of the terrible, American, made-for-TV movies available to me via Romanian satellite). I saw the premiere in the spring and loved it.

A great big ditto to everything above! I can't wait until I have the free time to watch the new episodes! I had a little crush on Matthew Morrison when he was on Broadway in Hairspray and then The Light in the Piazza. So, so lovely.

I enjoy Glee so far for all the reasons you listed, but I have a couple hang-ups that are keeping me from LOVING it.

- Why did they have to make Teacher Will start off married? Because now, in order for him to get together with Cutie Pie Emma, she has to bust up their marriage.

- I get that lip synching is rife, but could they at least make an effort? In the scene with the rival school's glee club in the pilot, it was ridiculously clear that they had hired a bunch of dancers and forgot to tell them to move their lips, like, at some point in the number.

Other than that, yes, I feel you on the band/drama geekery.

Hmm. Sorry I missed the premiere (I have basic-basic cable and no Tivo.)

Word verification is berph. A polite burp?

Let your geek flag fly! I LOVE GLEE!

I also LOVED the "Push It" number. I was dying!

This post is another indication that sometime recently I must have fallen "over the hill" and have clearly lost touch with the current culture. First, I have no understanding of the crazy appeal for the masses to post their every action and thought on Facebook. Second, you turned 30. Third, was this post. Finally, and probably most significant, was your recent inquiry and concern into who will be responsible for changing my diapers when I inevitably am incapable of caring for myself.

Dad, you have to understand. The concern about your elderly welfare was more selfishly motivated than anything. After visiting that nursing home on Sunday I want to make sure I never go to one of those things. I figure my kids might not get the proper message if they see me stuff you and Mom into one and might see that as a good option. Am very grateful that Jenny will be stepping up in this matter of the butt-wipings.

Kanye's middle name clearly explains a lot.

And your dad. is. AWESOME.

Right on about Kanye. I have yet to check out Glee, but you can bet I will. I love that kind of thing!

I've loved Glee, too. And, I've even convinced my husband to watch it with me, which was no small feat. I do, however, share RA's concerns about the whole married Will and cute guidance counselor Emma. Also, I think Episode 2 was all about how teenagers have to have sex, and if you're not having sex, it's because you're a tease. So, I am watching it, but my teenager? Nope.

Also, if this moral rant wasn't enough for you, ask me how I feel about Twilight, and teenaged girls letting boys stay in their bedrooms all night, and (in the movie) kissing said boys while not wearing any pants. Really.

And, it is official. I have just turned in to my mother.

De-lurking to recommend that you check out teacher Will's high notes in "Younger Than Springtime" as Lt. Cable on the new Broadway revival cast recording of South Pacific. Melt, melt, melt. :)

It's hard not to love a show where people randomly break into song.

Ugh! If Will and Emma have an affair I might have to stop watching. He's married! With a fake baby on the way :)

I watched this show because of your enthusiasm, oh person I've never met but whose blog upon which I recently stumbled. My main complaint is could they get any more politically correct with their core five students? It almost induces a headache. When are they going to introduce the rich, young hispanic whose father now is an oil tycoon because he started a taco stand when he was 10. Or whatever.

I'm hoping they take a sharp right and make Will's wife-whose-name-I-can't-recall a sympathetic figure. I'm only at episode 2 and I'm tired of hating her.

I understand why they have the wife - it makes for an intriguing tension and air of the forbidden between Emma and Will. I just wish they didn't have to make it seem like it's ok to flirt with the cute guidance counselor if your wife is a shrew. (Martial counseling, anyone?)

Still, thanks for the recommendation. I'll be watching for until they do something I can't forgive :)

Am I the only person that knows when doing TV there must be conflict? Yes, Will is married. But I thought at the end of Showmance Emma took a nice, high road. Conflict is what makes stories people! (Of course, this might be why I hate Twilight. There was no conflict!)

Carina said... [reply]

No, Crystal, I'm with you, no conflict, no show.

Jessalyn Gilsig does crazy like no one else.

The football episode has been my favorite one so far (other than the pilot.)
