Welcome, and thank you for making Jenny an aunt

My brother and his wife had their first baby this week. My s-in-l was in labor for, no lie, eleventy hundred hours before she ended up having a C-section. Everyone is doing fine and they're home.

And here's precious baby Madeline:

Lookit that li'l rosebud mouth!

This was the conversation I had with Jenny during the Multiple Days of Labor while we were waiting for news.

Jenny: ALSO! I AM SO EXCITED TO BE AN AUNT!
SO EXCITED!
I mean, I know I technically am one already but it doesn't feel like it.
I think I'm going to like this being an aunt stuff.

Me: Oh my gosh, that's right! You've NEVER BEEN AN AUNT!
How did I not realize this? The rest of us have been aunts but you were always the mom!

Jenny: I need to MAIL HER THINGS.

Me: YEAH. Yeah you do.

Now Jenny gets why I was always turning up with baby clothes and accessories and books and toys for Savannah. You become an aunt and some sort of switch goes off and you Must. Buy. Things. For. Baby. It is a very, very real force.

They're coming out in January for coolboy's wedding and I cannot wait to eat that baby's face.

So cute! My mom calls all the cute baby stuff at WalMart "Grandma Traps". It's a good thing my kids have a grandma and aunts or else they'd never have cool stuff like Halloween barrettes.

I love being an aunt and always succumb to the buying of things for my niece. Especially shoes.

I love her.

I'm an aunt and I love mailing things to my nephew. He has more than one blanket for each day of the week.

I have lots of pseudo nieces and nephews, and they are as much fun to spoil as the real ones! (Particularly now that the real ones are becoming teenagers)

Oh, poor Maddy. Was it the garden gnome hat that made you cry? ;)

She's sweet as.

Wait, you have two brothers?

I always had the urge to buy stuff for my nephews when they were born (I was in college) but had no real grasp on how big babies/toddlers/kids acually were, so Freshman year I bought my 1 year old nephew a BYU jacket that ended up not fitting him until he was like 6 or 7 and BYU changed from Royal blue to Navy blue! But yes, aunt buying is so much fun!

She is precious!

I was an aunt long before I became a mother and I agree that it is its own kind of awesome.
