Working it like a clean hippie

This afternoon I took a lemon out of my fruit bowl. I cut it in half and squeezed that half over my toilet bowl along with Borax, as per this recipe. My toilet now looks and smells beautiful. (I did have to scrub it, though.)

Then I took that same piece of lemon, put it in a cup of water and ran it in my disgusting, crusty microwave for 3 minutes just like Carina told me to. I wiped the microwave out and it looks beautiful.

And that, Charlie Sheen, is what we actually call winning.

Poured the hot water and lemon down the sink and ran the disposal so now my sink is all lovely-smelling. No old pieces of fish here, thank you. Except it turns out that there was a plastic baby bottle lid down there that I didn't know about, so that dampened my winning just a bit.
Except I just now put my funky plastic shower curtain liner in the washing machine with an old towel. Back to winning, y'all! Also, thank you, lemon.

Anybody else do anything today that deserves a pat on the back?

I stopped on my way home from visiting my parents (win!) and picked up a quart of homemade pumpkin ice cream. Now I'm eating it. WIN!

Yeah, you win.

I had no idea you could put a shower liner in the washing machine! We just threw ours away, cause it was nasty. Now I know better!

I...figured out how Pinterest works? I'm not sure that's a good thing, though. Ooh, I know! I actually folded the laundry instead of leaving it in the clean basket until we wear it! Yay me!

I laid on my bed, read a book, and ignored my children for an hour and a half. Does that get anything? If not, oh well... it was worth it. :)

I fed the missionaries for the first time in my adult life. Look at me! Helping Zion and all that!

I need to get on board the natural cleaning train. I even have borax and a guest bathroom that could use a cleaning!

These are both great ideas, and I'll be trying them out this afternoon to use up a lemon that has gotten a little sad-looking!

Another good house hold use for lemons, is to sprinkle your cutting boards with salt, and let them sit for 5 mins, then use the lemon wedge as a scrubbie to get them clean and sanitized. Works like a charm.

Um, cleaned out my inbox?

Ooh, I've been looking for a non-toxic way to clean the toilets. Thanks for the tip! I switched over to a lot of hippie cleaning. (Vinegar and water to clean most everything; baking soda and water to wash my hair; lemon, water, and EVOO instead of Pledge, etc.) Must try the lemon in the water for the microwave as well. It'll make it a little more pleasant.

Oh-and pour some white vinegar into the rinse cycle when you are washing said shower curtain. Gets all the soap scum off!
