I just might pull through
source |
I woke up this morning and my first thought was not, "I wish to die" but rather, "Huh. I actually feel slightly rested, what with only waking up 5 times in the night instead of the usual 12." So maybe I've turned a corner and will soon rejoin the land of the living.
In a fit of optimism at the thought, I decided to wash my bedding in case I improve enough today to lure GH back into the marriage chamber. (He's been sleeping in the guest room for the last few days, which has probably kept him from catching my cold (cross fingers) and has resulted in better sleep for both of us. But I'm starting to miss having someone right there to mess the covers completely up and sleep with his elbow inches from my eye socket, you know?)
So I pulled all the Snot and Germ Rags Formerly Known as Bedding off my bed to give it a good wash. Which is when I saw my bare pillows and almost threw up. You know how you're supposed to wash your pillows every 6 months otherwise Martha Stewart will judge you and also you will be sleeping with your face on your old yellow sweat rings? I think maybe I forgot to do that last fall. And possibly last spring. I don't even know, but it was gross. So I found some hard-core pillow whitening directions online, and the two worst pillows are in the machine now. We'll see how it goes. And now I am really, really tired.
You know being sick is getting old when you wish you felt better so that you could clean. And I will be happy to have clean white pillows again. Does anybody else have any spring cleaning stuff that they are actually kind of looking forward to?
I take my leave of you, February. I send no compliments to your mother, you deserve no such attention.

The FIRST thing I did when Jason and I were on the upswing from the flu is wash ALL of the bedding and the throw blankets we had germified in the family room during our plague.
Glad you're feeling better!
Had to post, because your last line cracked me up!!! Love P&P!
You're supposed to wash your pillows?! Ooops. I just have two pillow cases on my pillows and that's what I wash.
I always wash everything in super hot water after an illness. I remember coming out of a week of severe sickness and was so happy I had the energy to go to the laundry room and clean. I felt so happy to have clean sheets even if I had no energy to put them on my bed.
I just want to say that my husband and I also go to separate rooms to sleep when one of us is sick. I'm glad to see someone else does the same thing!
I like to wash my pillows then hang them from the trees in my backyard so they can dry in the sun and breeze. they smell awesome after that!
Whenever I try to wash my pillows (not often), they always seem to be totally misshapen afterward. Am I doing something wrong? (Probably.) Do I just have really cheap pillows? (Probably.) Hmm...
Glad you're starting to feel better!
Kelly, my throw blankets still need to be washed. Or burned.
Springrose, glad you liked it! It is EXACTLY how I feel . . .
Abby, YES. Just enough energy to get them washed, and then you crash and sleep on top of a blanket instead.
Bridget, this was the first time we've tried this and I really think it helped! We're lucky though in that there actually was another bed for one of us to go to.
Missy, I suppose the time is coming when I can start hanging things outside again without them all turning to ice blocks.
Monica, the secret is tennis balls. Tennis balls or even clean tennis shoes in the dryer can help keep your pillows from clumping up!
Winter germs are the worst and you are supposed to wash your pillows? Gotta go do that.
