Oh my gosh, I AM going to flunk out of school!

So forget the part where I thought I was doing well in school. I got my score back from the timed XHTML/CSS test we did a couple of weeks ago and I totally, totally failed. Like, by a lot failed.

I will end up living on the streets of Nottingham in a refrigerator box. Even the cats will shun me. Then I will be shot in the crossfire of gang warfare, which they have in Nottingham. And no one will care.

I guess I'd better go talk to the prof, so that he doesn't think that I'm actually okay with this. It was quite a horrible shock. When I talk to him, maybe it would help to say something like, "Excuse me. You appear to have made a mistake here, because I don't actually fail things. Ask around." Or, you know, maybe I'll go back into the computer lab and follow the directions for the test again (I still have them) to prove that I can do all that stuff, even if I couldn't do it that day.

It's not like I blew the test off or didn't prepare. All he told us to do was be sure we knew how to do the stuff we'd learned in class. And I did! I reviewed all the class exercises and everything! Only in the beginning of the test it turned out that I saved the wrong thing to use as my Doctype. So none of the pages I created were validating and I started getting all worried and spent tons of time trying to figure out what the problem was when I should have just moved ahead. By the time I figured out what I'd done and went in and retyped in the correct Doctype coding, there was only like 15 minutes left to do everything else, and it all went to cr--rubbish. (We only had 50 minutes for the whole test.)

Ugh. I am doomed. Dooooooomed!

I called WR, all despondent and ready to throw myself under a truck. He was very sweet about it. "Well, look at the bright side. This proves you're not a geek." Also he offered to take me to IKEA this week, so that I can look at and touch the pretty things there and eat the Swedish meatballs. It will be a balm for my wounded soul.

Well, if it makes you feel any better I failed my share of tests at BYU (like seriously, more than my share). I'm sure I bombed a test or two with the graduate work, too. I had some of those same feelings.......like my life was over and I wasn't going to amount to anything, etc. Nem--you are a very smart girl, and one bad test is just a minor setback. Tests don't mean squat. Especially that one--I'm sure it was the computer's fault.

Enjoy IKEA, and indulge yourself!Buy yourself something nice! (Whether it's at IKEA or somewhere else).

And if I don't talk to you before Thursday--Happy Thanksgiving!!

MMMMmmmm....balm for a wound.

Hey Nem, WELCOME TO MY WORLD. HAAAA! HAA HAA HAAHAAHAAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahaha!

Now you'll know what it's like to have to WORK for your grades.

Good luck Nem, good luck.

On the bright side, my friends bought a puppy...

Kristen, that does make me feel better. Because you did graduate--I mean, unless that announcement you gave me was a clever fake. And Happy Thanksgibbing Back!

WR--Hee, yeah you do. Please don't be alarmed if I shed tears of rapture as soon as I see the building.

And SR, don't even start with me. You don't work for grades--you just pretend to go on road trips and get paid for it! Also I love puppies.

I took a take home test last week that I thought I did alright on. My professor came into class today and told he was very disappointed in our performance, blah, blah, blah and we were going to have to have a sit-down final instead of a take home because of our poor performance. And then he didn't give our tests back. The jerk.

Chuch, that guy is a jerk, Hass. You should go to his office and tell him you want to see your paper. Then he can tell you how sorry he is to have to lump your brilliant self in with the other idiots.

I know how smart you are, Nem, and I don't believe you will flunk out. It's just one test after all. I have faith in you! So, buck up little camper! :) Happy shopping at IKEA...I like this WR more and more all the time. Oh, and ditto to Kristen...HAPPY THANKSIVING!!

Oh so sorry to hear that! Yes, go talk to the professor. And then go to IKEA. And then have some quality time with WR. Hurrah!

I like the word "crubbish."

I am very sorry to hear your terrible news! If I were flying to London, I'd bring you a can of pumpkin, too, and then and only then would I be as cool as Redlaw.

Nem,

It's okay - XHTML is some hard crubbish to get right - I have been known to bomb a test or two when dealing with it...and NOBODY took me to IKEA to make up for it (I knew that last boyfriend was no good...I'll have to remember the IKEA test for future suitors).

If it makes you feel better, I am struggling this quarter and have to start my finals while I'm over there visiting you - maybe I'll bring enough Jiff for both of us to grab spoons and eat ourselves into sorrow comas (WR, this is the part where you would end up stopping us before it was too late...but don't stop us too soon, you hear?)

Cicada,

C'mon...you are WAY cooler than me - I'm just trying to play catch-up to your Canadian greatness...

Sorry to hear it, Nem! :( But you know what? You seem pretty dang smart to me. AND you've got two other pretty good grades so far. I highly doubt you're going to flunk out.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Jaime! I'm sure your apartment looks fabulous right about now.

Kelly, you are of course right and logical. And I will probably have to start using the word crubbish to see if I can make it catch on!

Cicada, just the sight of your Goldie Hawn lips made my day. So you don't even need to bring me pumpkin stuff.

Redlaw, I will bring Twix bars to use in case the spoons break and our fingers get tired.

JB, thank you. You are all making me feel tons better! I should flunk tests more often!

Hey Savvymom, do you want me to buy presents for your soon-to-be-born child?

Hi, love. Surely you won't FAIL. Remember how often we used to congratulate ourselves on not being in school anymore? :) Sean says hi and that he will fail out before you. And he has a family to support so he feels quite guilty about it.

Once in college I missed an anatomy class where the prof handed out study sheets for our next quiz. A friend picked up an extra set of sheets for me and said that we were only being quizzed on the last sheet. I studied my butt off. Went to class for the quiz, and almost none of it was what I'd studied. It turned out that the sheet I'd needed hadn't been included in my packet!! I totally failed the quiz, but I talked to the prof, and he gave me an extra day to study and take the quiz over again. But can you imagine me hyperventilating all through the first quiz?? I was the last person to finish. Yikes.

oh man! Well at least there's the store...so jealous about that...and the man (I won't even go there.)

YEAH!!! I had the chance to see Pride & Prejudice tonight, and it was amazing. I agree with you, Nem, on all points. I especially loved the kissing scene...sorry that you missed that one. You can't have everything over there in England (I'm pretty much jealous of you on everything else). :) Anyway, it was great!

Hello love, I'm sorry your sweet husband is going to fail out of school. Tell him I'm sorry. When we're all living on the streets we can be neighbors, though!

Wow, April. I have nightmares about that sort of thing. I'm glad it all worked out!

Panini, you're right. I'm a lucky duck and need to remember it.

Yay Jaime! I would ask you to tell me what the kissing scene was like, but that might be weird. Only I really want to know!!!
