I've got some bad news and some good news

The Bad News
The bad news is that I am sick. You might think it is just a common cold, but you would be wrong. I look like a lukewarm pile of death, I SOUND like a chain-smoking transexual, and when I cough it feels as though tiny Gremlin armies are scampering around in my throat with pick-axes.

I want to die.

What makes this really bad is that this is the final week before the Christmas vacation, and so I have 2 projects due tomorrow and another 2 due on Friday. Only I sort of don't even want to get out of bed, much less haul my sick self up the hill to the computer lab where my work is saved. So there you have it. Now I will for sure flunk out of school. It's a pity, really.

The Good News
The good news is that I get to go home and see The Precious!!!!!!! (I mean, unless I die of consumption first.)

My department decided to push back the first day of lectures, so I ended up with an extra week of Christmas vacation in January, right after Savvymom has her baby and when my parents are flying down to Utah to visit them. So I checked online and found out that I could get a ticket home. It's still going to cost an absolute fortune that I wasn't planning to spend, but I'm using my Christmas money and some Skymiles and some student loan and there you have it.

When I first realized it was a possibility I called Mom and Dad to see what they thought, and then I called Savvymom.

Me: Hey, I need to ask you something important.

SM: Okay . . .

Me: Right. So, you know how my school was supposed to start back up on the 9th? Well now they're saying they don't want to see us until the 16th, so I was thinking-----

SM: YES YES YOU CAN COME!!

So there you have it. It will be like a second Christmas celebration, but with a newborn and a drugged-up Savvymom and a stressed-out toddler and a whole lotta people crammed in one tiny apartment.

Yay that you get to go home!! Oh, I can only imagine how happy you must be for that! As for being sick . . . blech. So sorry. This too shall pass, but I'm sure that doesn't make you feel any better right now. I'm not sure what will make you feel better, other than time and sleep, so hang in there. What a wonderful thing to look forward to!

Texmom, thanks so much for being excited for me! Also you are a sweetie to be sympathetic about my cold. I know I'm a huge whiner, and I'm sure it's nothing compared to morning sickness, but what can you do?

You can stay at my house if SM's is too crowded. But only if you're germ free. Lola is sick just like you. I am even getting the same dramatic descriptions. "It feels like a hundred tiny dwarves are picking on the sides of my throat with their tiny axes . . . and when I breathe it feels like a giant is standing on my chest." Whatever happened to "sore throat and labored breathing?"

So sorry you are sick Nem. I hope it passes quickly. Rest up--and good luck on your finals and projects (I'm sure you won't flunk out!).

And yay for coming to Utah!! Be sure to pencil in some time with friends. What dates will you be here?

I'm happy you can come home (and I don't even know you) and I'm sorry that you're sick. It reminds me of my first Christmas after a couple of semesters of library school. I was sick also during finals week and was half dead when I handed in my final project. I was looking so forward to a month off (which I never enjoyed at BYU) and later found myself in a month of sickness. I ended up having sinusitus which was quickly followed by a bout of bronchitis. I hope you can recover from this Dickensonian British illness soon and enjoy your vacation.

I'm sick too! I can't seem to get over this: I keep thinking I'm getting over it and then it gets worse. And worse... growl... So, here's hoping we both start feeling much better really soon! ;)

Also, I'm SO glad to hear that you get to go home!! :D *happy dance*

Get better soon! Sucks to be sick during finals, but hopefully you won't be sick for Christmas!

Aww . . . sniff sniff . . . you are all so sweet and good to me. I'm feeling a little bit better tonight, and I've bought 3 liters of orange juice and some strange British tablets so we'll see what that does. I think mornings are usually the worst when you're sick, right?

JB, I'm so sorry! I'll send some get-well vibes for you because it sounds like you could use them.

It's actually in the official handbook of Library Sciences Masters Students - if you read the fine print, it clearly states that you MUST be sick every time finals roll around - otherwise, you might actually enjoy this.

Here's to being sick and working on finals! Cheers!

(I finish my last one tonight - Yay! That is, if the croup doesn't do me in first...)

If you come to the office to visit--and I'm not saying you should--I will giggle like a baby with a hammer and a lightbulb if you have even a hint of a British accent.

I hope you feel better soon; and the pick-axes comment was gold--GOLD.

I bet the tablets send you right off to Wonderland to meet with the Mod Hatter as a giant blonde girl...

...and daltongirl, foreigners are ALWAYS carrying something bad for kids. So are plane travelers for that matter...

Merry Christmas! Being home is important and it's rad that you get to. Your writing is brilliant even when you're sick. You lukewarm pile of death, you.

Yayayayayay! Nothin' says lovin' like 14 hours on a plane! So glad you'll get to go home after all!

Consider yourself orange juiced, echinacea'd, and tucked-in under a down comforter. Turn about is fair play.

I am oh so very excited for your trip to see the fam! Have fun playing auntie nem. January is fast approaching too. Three cheers! The only bad news is that I'll miss you by a month. I'm going out in Feb for birthday festivities and perhaps to scope out a place to live.

Nemesis, I would love it if you even have a minute to say "hello" to a good friend while you are in Utah (i.e. ME!!!). I miss you terribly, and you have just given me something to hope for and look forward to.

Feel better my friend!! Nurses orders.... :)

Aw, sweetie, I'm so sorry that you're sick. Sick during the end of the semester crunch=extra super sucky.

But going home makes up for it. Even if you have to be sick for a little while.

Redlaw, dearest, good luck to you too! I hope you live!

Stupid, I will be sure to switch off my Lady Di accent if I do come in to the office. And I may well be coming in, because it turns out that someone never turned my cell phone in to the office like she said she would.

Thanks photogenic! I had fun looking at your blog today.

Yay, thanks for being excited for me, Rach! And so glad that your dentist is a dreamboat!

E, I am not scared beyond all reason of the Texan remedy. Too bad I don't think that have that stuff over here.

Aww . . . thanks for the sweet thoughts, Miss A. And are you maybe coming back to Utah then??

Um, Jaime, hello, we so have to have a Coney's night! I can hardly wait!!

Thanks, Hass. And good luck as you get all your stuff done too!
