I've never FELT so alive!!!

I have two things to say here if I can calm down enough to say them.

The first thing is that I just got my tax refund. I didn't think I would be eligible for the Lifetime Learning or whatever rebate ($2,000) for the tuition I paid last year, on account of it's a UK school that doesn't have an agreement with the Dept of Ed. But I answered all the questions honestly and carefully and figured I would just see what happens. They could give me the money, or they could not give it to me and send me a letter that said "Nice try, fool" or they could send black-suited men to my door to cart me off to prison. Only guess what??? They gave it to me! $2,528!! That's half a car!! That's 8 months' rent! That's a furnished IKEA apartment!

The other news is that I am the absolute luckiest girl in the world. Some of you may not get what I'm excited about, but some of you will. And you will know. Yesterday I checked out a London Theatre Guide site and saw Wicked listed as one of the upcoming shows. It opens one week before I leave for my brother's wedding in Alaska. Only that's not even all! The lead will be played by IDINA MENZEL from the original Broadway cast (she won a Tony for it). And I'm going! I'm going! Me me me meeee!!! I booked tickets right then for the September 9th matinee and Goldilocks is coming too. It will be my dissertation present to myself. I was so keyed up last night that I couldn't even sit still. And now I'm listening to the soundtrack because I am a big giddy nerd.

IDINA MENZEL?!!! O!M!G! You truly are the luckiest girl in the world, and I am hugely jealous.

Ditto the jealous! You are going to adore it. Enjoy! I am trying to remember what I treated myself with at the end of my thesis. I think it was 8 hrs of sleep...

I KNOW!!!!! Thanks for understanding what a big deal this is, Carrie!

Danalee, I'm sure the 8 hours of sleep was very wise. I may have to save mine for the plane ride home! :-)

That is GREAT news! I'm so happy for you-- how nice to have two huge and lovely things happen to you. I'm assuming you've seen Wicked before, right? I saw it with the YW in Houston before I moved. What a treat it was. The girls were giddy with excitement.

I'm still blitzing over the fact that you are going to get to see Idina Menzel in that role.

SOOOOOOOOjealous. Impending move means that I probably will not be seeing Wicked at all this year, let alone in England with famous leads. We can still be friends, maybe.

Hi Texmom! And no, I've never seen it but have been dying to ever since it came out!

Hee. Me too, Carrie! Have you seen it before?

Sorry, Jen. I hope an afternoon at the Crate & Barrel outlet will help cure the jealousy!

Thanks JB! I thought I'd seen you write something about Wicked before, so I was excited to let you know. :-)

I'd like us to remain friends, Amyjane, if possible. Any offerings I should send you?

I am really jealous. Really. Really. But, I think that you also really, really deserve it. Have fun and feel free to blog away afterwords so that we get all of the juicy details.

No, I have never seen it because a) no one can match my love for Idina Menzel as Elphaba and b) I've never been near a city where it was playing. I remember watching Idina and Kristen sing "Defying Gravity" during the Tonys a few years ago, and I was so breathless after the performance. It was intense and she was amazing. I think tears were involved, and I might have given her a standing o in my living room.

It is an AMAZING show - you are going to LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I saw in Los Angeles last September and it was FANTASTIC! I was crying as it finished!

So, so jealous of you!

You are SO lucky, and I'm SO jealous! It played here in LA last summer--and a friend of mine in AZ got me tickets.

Well, then brains over here (that's me) decided to go to UT with my mom, and guess what weekend it was? The VERY same weekend I was supposed to see Wicked in LA.

I cried and cried. And, almost sold my ticket on ebay for $600+, but I sold it to a girl in LA instead.

I'm still sad. But, I can live vicariously thru your blog. :)

I for sure will, DMA! No worries!

Thanks lilcis, you're making me even more excited!

Hi Mom, feel free to head on over! There might still be seats left . . .

Noelle, that is quite possibly the saddest story I have ever heard. Seriously. And I'm sorry that you didn't even get $600 for your ticket, which maybe would have helped a tiny bit.

Want to hear something funny? As soon as I read this post of yours, commented, I turned on the Today show, and I'm pretty sure Idina Menzel was the one singing with Trisha Yearwood for Katie's last day.

I think I must now get the soundtrack, as well.
