They must put stupid drops in the water here

The other day after story time the library was full of parents and little ones. I overheard one mother engaged in a heated discussion about education and parental rights. Her position is that as a parent she has the right to oversee her child's education, even if that means that she ends up doing the teaching herself. Because she is very, very, deeply concerned about her children and what they learn. It is her responsibility. It is her right.

I had to interrupt this conversation of deep, deep parental concern to inform her that her children (ages 2 and 4) had in fact left the library and were now trying to rush out into the busy parking lot.

Then I went back to my desk and wept for the future.

On a happier note, have just made plans to watch my boyfriend in Amazing Grace this weekend with Cicada. He will restore my faith in the future with his nobleness and his slavery-abolishing ways and those beautiful dark curls that rest just so on his forehead.

hahaha It's funny because it's true! We must have our own share of stupid water here. I was going to post some stupid questions or conversations from my library, too. Lord help us.

Nem, I thought of you today! I had my terrorism midterm this evening (that's not why I thought of you though) and just for the contrast I wore a powder pink hoodie, dark pink tanktop, jeans and powder pink stilettos because I thought it would be funny to look super girly while carrying a political terrorism book. I remember what your mom told you about pink but I had never really experienced it until today. I had guys open doors for me on five occasions in the course of an hour, three others let me go first when it came to elevators and entering rooms, and one picked up my book when it fell on the ground...

You should've seen Nem last week in a black/Jolie powersuit with a powder-pink sweater over the top. Guys were completely just passing out upon seeing her.

Stupid drops. That's a good one. I am totally going to use that later on this week.

Nem, you are a funny, funny Lady. We catch a break now and then when things happen to expose these hot-shots for the frauds they are.

Because I'm a single father of 3, who tries to enforce some semblance of discipline, I find myself falling under the scrutiny of windbags such as the one you highlighted here. I love it.

I knew you'd feel me, April.

Oh my gosh, Eva, that is hysterical! I'm sure my mom is just ever-so-pleased with herself right now. And I hope you showed that terrorism midterm that you're the vulnerable boss of it.

Desmama, you flatter me. I'm pretty sure the only guys passing out were the ones who were out past their naptime.

Jimmy, thanks for the compliment. And thank you SO much for raising kids who know how to behave in a library! :-)

Thanks, Azucar!
