Wherein I had my first deep-fried Snickers bar

Had a grand time at the Utah State Fair yesterday. I went down with Spitfire and her bf-who-does-not-yet-have-a-blog-name, and we met up with Jen & Co. Cicada and Murray also joined us.

Savvy is a real chicken, but she felt safe petting the goats, I think. She made sure to pick as her petting targets the big ones who were lying on their sides, not looking at her, and preferably asleep or unconscious.

Cicada was a big hit with the goats, who all wanted to snuggle up to her and love her the most and go home with her. I dubbed her Goat Whisperer.

And really, those goats were pretty much the cutest things ever. They're supposed to make great pets and you can let them graze in the back yard and they'll keep your lawn cut for you. And they probably don't produce any more poop than an outside dog does. So yeah, I'm all for goats. Especially this one:

Seriously, I could not even take how precious this sleepy little guy was. At the same time I was fretting about where his mama is and why is he not eating? BABIES NEED TO EAT!!!

Also, I found my heart's desire, even the deep-fried Snickers bar. For only $4, the dream could be mine. I was surprised to see that a prepared bar looked a lot like a corn dog--a corn dog of sin, that is. The batter tasted a lot like a churro and the finished product was rolled into cinnamon sugar. So yeah, it was delicious in an "I can't believe how low we've sunk as a people, and maybe we just deserve to get Type II diabetes and die and leave the inheritance of the earth to the sensible creatures" kind of way. Good times, though.

I'm organizing a trip to the Eastern States Exposition (read: New England State Fair) this weekend. I am seriously thinking about trying a fried Snickers bar just because it's so, so wrong.

I knew it wasn't going to be a flattering picture when you took and I knew it would end up on your blog. Oh well. At least I have goat tenderness and affection to console me.

Hey, I didn't tell you to pucker up. I think you look adorable, though.

A fried Snickers bar actually does sound good. It couldn't be worse than what we found at the Georgia State Fair, namely fried pickles and roasted pig ears with grape jelly.
Yum Yum.

Your blog is a kick! I've dropped in a couple times from Nomad's blog, but now I've added you to my list of required reading.

You might like the recipe on my most recent blog -- Blackened Chicken (inedible). Laughing is always better than bawling!

I once lived with goats. They may not produce more poop quantity-wise, but they leave it in little poo pebbles everywhere they go. Plus they cough all night. I recommend against them as pets. And as creatures, actually.

Christie, welcome! It's lovely to have you. :-) I'm heading over to your blog right now to check you out.

Liz, I will take your comments into serious consideration re: goat poop. I sleep pretty heavily at night so the coughing wouldn't be as much of a problem. (Not for me, anyway. Too bad for the neighbors.)

I canNOT believe you tried it! I considered the deep-fried oreos at the Indiana State Fair, but decided to go with the fat fest that is the funnel cake. There was also fried Pepsi, but that sounded awfully unappetizing.

How can you eat a corndog after watching those cute commercials. Corndogs have feelings too. Plantboy was practically attacked by a goat at the Wild Animal Park in Texas. I guess it was a wild goat? Anyway, it was six years ago and I've never let him live it down.

These goats were the most precious little farm animals at the fair.

Hmmm...I'm sure I heard bad things about goats. The way they actually eat the grass tears it up out of the ground? I'm not sure about that one.
But what I'm sure is they'll eat just about anything. ANYTHING. ie don't leave your pants out to dry.

You know, for added cuteness they've 'invented' pygmy goats

I believe in Scotland they like to deep fry things like Snickers and Mars bars. You can buy fish, chips and mars bar which is perhaps a delicacy.

My friend and I were freaking out at the idea of a fried Mars Bar (do you have those? chocolate, caramel, nougat-ish stuff. Anyway...) and decided we needed to try one just to see how bad/rich/oily, etc it would be (research).

HOLY HOT MELTING GOODNESS, BATMAN!! It was delicious! Now avoiding them, obviously.

Incidentally, my uncle has a goat farm in Barbados. Good fun and the babies were so cute!

We do have Mars bars, Chosha, but they aren't as popular as Snickers. I feel that the peanuts give this a much-needed bit of substance. :-)

A mars bar is best stored in the fridge and sliced up over the course of a day. Snickers used to be called a marathon in the UK, don't know why, but of course if the US want it to be a snickers it will be.

My comment is late, and I noticed someone already stole my "Fried Pepsi" thunder. I'm not done posting about our visit to the state fair, but I do have a shot of the "deep fried" stand if you are interested.

I loved the review of Anxiously Engaged. Ouch!
